SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB – DOBERMANNS

I wish to thank the SKC Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge Dobermanns at their show for the second time.  My stewards did a great job of keeping the ring running well – thank you.  Also thanks to exhibitors for the opportunity to judge their dogs.  Not a big entry but the quality in the classes was very good making for some difficult decisions.

Temperaments were good as was dentition and the condition of exhibits.

I was pleased to see that my BOB and BPIB were shortlisted in the large Working Groups and my Special Beginner was placed 3rd in the Group.  Well done to you all.

MPD (3)

A good start to the day with three lovely puppies at different stages of development and who I am sure will swap places in the future.

1.  Reid’s Dobshangrila Xavi (lkc) Best Puppy Dog

     8 months black/rust male.  Masculine head with dark almond shaped eyes and well set ears.  He has strong bone and substance.  Good reach of neck, good front and forechest.  Well muscled hind quarters which showed in his movement where he covered the ground with good reach and drive.  Needs to strengthen in topline but this will come with maturity.

2.   Blackburn’s Knecht Little Richard

       8 months black/rust male.  Presents a lovely square outline with short back.  Good head plains, dark eye and good depth of muzzle. Rich rust markings with good bone. Moved well.

3.   Brown’s Jojavik Shaken Not Stirred

1.  Capell’s Llepac Against the Odds (BPD)

11 months black/rust elegant male who has a lovely clean outline and is developing well but just needs to fill out which will come with maturity.  Lovely wedge shaped head with correct planes and with dark almond shaped eyes.  Lean neck leading into slightly sloping topline and good tailset.  Compact catlike feet and strong pasterns. Retains his outline on the move. 

2.  Merchant’s Cockneyoka Get Over it at Mandareus

Brown/rust 11 months male.  Enjoying himself in the ring and giving his handler a hard time.  Another who needs time to mature and fill his frame.  Substantial male with good round bone.  Masculine head with dark eye giving good expression. Good front and rear angulation.  Moved well when settled.

JD (3, 1a)

1.  Lawrie’s Aritaur Vulpes

Black/rust male with correct head planes and flat skull with well set ears.  Well balanced with good reach of neck. .  Short coupled male with good front angulation and with enough forechest.  Gently sloping topline.  Moved well.

2.  Wall’s Jarajinx It’s in his Kiss

Black/rust substantial male who is well off for bone.  Good depth of brisket, topline and rear angulation.  Moved really well.

PGD (6)

1.  Hunt & Flitcroft’s Tuwos Mr. Majestik Vonsallate

Standard sized brown and rust male with the correct square outline.  Head is well balanced with correct head planes, dark eye with keen expression, well set ears and good depth of muzzle.  Neck fits well into his slightly sloping topline, short strong back with good tailset.  Good round bone and well bodied.  Well developed forechest, brisket down to tight elbows and well sprung ribs.  Just needs to settle on the move.

2.  Strachan’s Maighread’s Ben Nevis

Another standard sized brown and rust male who has a pleasing outline just a bit longer in the loin than first.  Good head planes with dark eye.  Slightly sloping topline with well set tail.  Parrallel legs with good front angulation. .  Moved well.

3.  Randall’s Ares God of War

LD (8. 3a))

1.  Robertson’s Cockneyoka Dire Straits, Res Dog CC

One I have admired since a puppy.  Presents a square outline with ample bone.  Loved his head which has correct planes, dark almond shaped eyes and good depth of muzzle and when he is animated he looks a different dog. Strong muscular neck into good lay of shoulder leading into strong topline.  Good front and forechest.  Deep in body with good underline.  Good rear angulation and strong well let down hocks.  Moved with good reach and drive retaining his topline.  Pressed hard for the CC but did not have the presence of the Open Dog in the Challenge.

2.  Verrall’s Grafmax Oberon at Camperdown JW

Close decision between these two dogs.  Well balanced male who took my eye when he first entered the ring.  Masculine head with a dark eye and good earset. Lovely body shape with nothing overdone. Strong neck leading to slightly sloping topline which was retained on the move.  Compact body with short strong back, good front and rear angulation. Good round bone and compact catlike feet with good pasterns.   Moved well with good reach and drive.

3.  Young’s Kreiger’s Hunky Dory at Malibray JW

OD (6, 1a)

Three very worthy champions.

1.  Jones & Ushakova’s Ch. Korifey Vanquish, Dog CC

A real showman who fits the standard so well.  A quality dog who is in super condition.  Lovely head with correct planes, loved his expression, dark eye and good depth of muzzle and strong underjaw.  .  Good reach of neck into well laid shoulder which fits smoothly into his strong topline and well set tail.  Well developed forechest and good front with parallel legs, strong pasterns and compact cat like feet.  Deep in brisket down to close fitting elbows.  Well let down hocks.  Moved with good reach and drive and covers the ground with ease retaining his lovely balanced outline.  Handler pulled out all the stops in the challenge to bring the very best out of this dog and I could not deny him the Challenge CC.

2.  Woodhouse’s Jojavik Master Cutler

Another quality dog who was unfortunately carrying extra weight over his loin which spoilt his outline.  Strong handsome head with alert expression.  Strong bone and beautiful rich rust markings. Good reach of neck leading smoothly into his slightly sloping topline.  Loved his front with his well developed forechest with straight parallel legs.  Deep in body with well sprung ribs.  Good rear angulation.  Moved out well.

3.  Taylor’s Ch. Kreiger’s Foul Play

1.  Strachan’s Maighread’s Ben Nevis Best SB

1.  Downie’s Knecht Mileena

One that appealed for her overall balanced outline.  Well constructed bitch with rich rust markings.  Good head with correct head planes and dark almond shaped eyes.  Good flow from neck to well laid back shoulder into short back with correct tailset. Good depth of brisket down to elbow, good angulation front and rear.  Stands on good feet.  Moved steadily around the ring.

2.  Murray’s Nerak Unconditional Love

Taller elegant bitch with attractive feminine head, dark eye and good planes. Lean neck into good topline and tailset. Tight feet, good front and rear angulation.  Just needs to fill out her frame which will come with maturity and settle on the move.

3.  Moore’s Torcheny Takha

PB (4, 1w)

1.  Evans’ Amazon She is Adored, BPIB

Standard sized brown/rust bitch of 10 months who is well constructed and presents the desired square balanced outline. She has a feminine head with good planes and dark eye.  Good reach of neck leading to good topline and tailset.  Stands on good feet.  Short coupled.  Good front and rear angulation with hocks well let down.  Moved out well.  Should have a bright future.

2.  Evan’s Amazon Just Let me Adore You

Black and rust litter sister to one.  Very similar to sister with the same attributes but just a tad longer in the loin . Very stylish on the move.  I am sure these two will swap places many times.

3.  Kelly & Mycroft’s Supeta’s Smokin Hot

JB (6)

Difficult to split the first three in this class.

1.  Reid’s Zz Dreamgirl V.nobel Lime (Imp Nor)

Black/rust Dobermann bitch of 16 months.  Very appealing head with good planes and dark almond eyes with a lively alert expression.  Clean outline from her arched neck into her well laid shoulders leading into a gently sloping topline to correct tailset.  Standing on straight parallel legs, forechest well developed and well filled.  Well muscled which enabled her to power around the ring with good reach and drive.

2.  Webb’s Shalissa’s Perfect Blend JW

Taller black and rust elegant bitch.  Loved her head which was well proportioned.  Strong topline to correct tailset.  Good front construction with well developed forechest.  Deep body and short coupled.  Moved well.

3.  Ingram & Lack’s Jojavik Belladonic Fame

PGB (9, 4a)

1.  Goodall’s Maighread’s Bonny Rosheen to Maianna

Liked the clean outline of this bitch who is very smart.  Lean neck into slightly sloping topline to correct tailset. Pretty feminine head.  Balanced angulation.  Moved well.

2.  Pagan’s Manrio’s Izmir at Trystorme

Lovely substantial brown bitch who has good bone and substance but gave her handler a hard time.  Lovely head with good expression.   Short coupled, with good topline and tailset.  Moved well.

3.  Gulliver’s Tuwos Ms B Havin

LB (7, 1a)

1.  Jones & Ingram’s Jojavik Unforgettable

The more I looked at her the more I liked her.  Smart substantial black bitch with deep rust markings and is well balanced.  Attractive head with good head planes, dark eye and good depth of muzzle.  Lovely arched neck into well laid back shoulder flowing into firm topline and correct tailset.  Straight front and stands on compact catlike feet with strong pasterns. Good sweep of stifle and well let down hocks. Moved well. 

2.  McCall’s Diego’s Debbie Harry

One I have admired from the ring side and she didn’t disappoint.  Strong substantial black and rust bitch who is short coupled. Lovely head with correct planes, dark eye and good muzzle.  Good front and rear angulation, topline and tailset good.  Good reach of neck.  Moved well.

3.  King’s Nerak Rewrite the Stars

OB (11, 1w)

1.  Bisland’s Ch. Kreiger’s Highland Fling JW, Bitch CC & Best of Breed

Stunning enthusiastic showgirl with everything in the right places.  One I have admired since she was a puppy and she didn’t disappoint.  Substantial brown/rust with a very dark brown coat and rich tan markings.  She has an attractive head with good head planes, almond shaped eyes of dark brown.  Good depth of muzzle and correct well set ears.  Good reach of neck into well laid back shoulder leading into firm sloping topline and correct tailset.  Well developed forechest and parallel front legs with strong pasterns and compact feet. Good depth of brisket to close fitting elbows.  Well sprung ribs with strong loin.  Well angulated rear with good muscle tone and well let down hocks.  She strode around the ring with good reach and drive maintaining her fabulous outline.  Pleased to award her the Bitch CC and Best of Breed.

2.  Cairn’s Ch. Lamarag the Russian Redhead, Reserve Bitch CC

Well boned with good substance brown/rust bitch again with a very dark brown coat. Standard size with firm slightly sloping topline and good tailset.  Feminine head with good head planes and dark eye with well set ears.  Good reach of neck.  Good forechest and depth of brisket.  Angulation front and rear good.  Moved out well.  Pleased to award the Reserve Bitch CC.   

3.  Brough’s Sharhyste Maid in the Purple for Anilraz

SBB (1)

1.  Moore’s Torcheny Takha

Brown and rust bitch of 8 months. Third in Minor Puppy Bitch.  Lovely rich colour brown with good round bone, feminine head with good planes, good reach of neck.  Good depth of brisket to elbow.  She strode out well around the ring.
