I am grateful for having been introduced to the Portuguese Podengo by Betty Judge and have been involved for some years now and really love the breed.

I am pleased to say that type is more even now and temperaments have improved enormously, although today a couple of Hounds were a little apprehensive.

There were no Smooths entered today.

Veteran D or B -2 [1ab]

1st: Sampson, Mr. Simon & Sampson, Mrs Anna, Odisseia de Viamonte at Morialta.

Sweet 9 year old of lovely type, not showing her age. Pretty femine head with a  dark expressive eye and black nose. Thin triangular ears which she used well.

Balanced with good ratio of body length to height and nice make and shape.

Moved soundly and actively carrying her tail well. wiry coat. Best Veteran.  

Puppy Dog -1

1st: Haines, Mrs.L, Plushcourt Rising Above.

Strong, sturdy puppy with good angulation fore and aft, but rather heavily built.

Alert and curious.

Foxy wedge shape head, but rather heavy with an unusual brown patch over left eye and pink pigment to nose. Large, erect triangular ears, but quite thick. Dark eye.

Strong neck into well laid shoulder giving forechest. Strong bone. Length of body and level topline and rise to underline. Angulated hindquaters which he used well on the move.

 Strode out in profile,  a little untidy in front.

Tail well carried, but quite long with a plume. Thick coat.

In muscular condition.

Post Grad Dog-1 [1ab]

Open Dog- 3 [1ab]

1st: Sampson, Mr. Simon & Sampson, Mrs.Anna & Brooks, Mrs. Margaret, Morialta Ferreira.

Typy balanced dog  looking very well with good ratio of body length to height.

Masculine wedge shaped head with dark eye and alert expression Mobile erect ears which he used well. Big black nose. Strong neck into well placed shoulder with forchest. Good bone, but turns forefeet out a little. Level topline with rise over the loin. Moderate bend of stifle and sound going away. Movement in profile light and active. Carried tail well. Harsh coat. Nicely conditioned.  Best Dog & BOB

2nd: Judge, Mrs. Betty. Plushcourt Bear Witness.

Dog of superb type, but rather apprehensive which affected his demeanour and therefore not showing himself to his best adavantage and tending to tuck under himself. Handsome head with triangular ears, but tending to hold them back instead of erect maybe due to apprehension. Dark expressive eye with good pigment. Excellent front and forechest, balanced ratios throughout. Shapely quarters. Harsh wiry coat and in muscular condition. Moved  soundly. I hope he gains confidence.

Puppy Bitch-2 [1ab]

1st: Curtis, Mrs. Diana. Stormwitch Magic Melody.

Delightful puppy bitch, full of character and bounce, certainly agile and moved so soundly when she kept all 4 feet on the ground! Enjoying life, as a puppy should. Lovely for type and balance. Super head and expression, very alert and mobile ears which she uses well. Excellent scissor bite  Angulated shoulder placement , nice lines through and shapely  hindquarters with strong straight hocks. Excellent tail carriage, she's a happy girl. Harsh coat developing nicely.

 I think she has a bright future ahead of her.

Post Grad Bitch - 2[1ab]

1st: Curtis, Mrs.Diana. Stormwitch Givenchy.

Another lovely character with a super temperament, tail constantly wagging and enjoying her day out.  Pretty wedge shaped head and dark eye with a keen expression. 

Big black nose . Excellent scissor bite. Mobile erect ears.

Well laid shoulder  with forechest. Good bone and tight feet. Body with substance. through. Moderately angulated hindquarters which she used well to drive. Movement was lithe and active. Confident tail carriage. Muscular condition . Harsh wiry coat . Best Bitch.

Open Bitch 5 [2ab]

1st: Judge, Mrs.Betty.  Plushcourt Guessing.

Lovely typy bitch of good make and shape, but rather unsure of herself and didn't give of her best. I saw enough to see that her movement was very sound, but she didn't carry herself with confidence, initially her tail was down although high set on, but as she  moved out more tail carriage improved. Beautiful head with kind expression. Thin, large, triangular ears. Strong neck into level topline with rise over loin, cuts up a little in underline. Correct harsh coat.

2nd:Sampson, Mr.Simon & Sampson, Mrs. Anna. Morialta Sesmarias.

 Femine pretty bitch with kind expression but rather fine in head. Triangular ears which she used well. Angulated shoulder placement with forechest, but turns forefeet out a little. Proportionate length and height ratios. Bend of stifle. Moved soundly and actively. Excellent tail carriage. Harsh wiry coat. Muscular condition.
