Judging: Best In Show, Puppy

Richmond Championship Show 11, 12 & 13th September 2026.

A very respectful and efficiently run show, by a totally committed team, including my stewards, especially in the group ring. thank you to all.  

I have to say, the future of dog showing is safe in the hands of the exhibitors who presented a puppy to me in all the groups. I could easily have had more in my final line up and the 7 winners that came into the main ring were a credit to pure bred dogs and breeders. Ultimately only 2 , can take the rosettes and today the winner was, YATES-JOHNSON, Mrs J M Pendley Olivia - CAIRN TERRIER – Bitch. I understand this was her first show, but by shots, you wouldn’t think so. She was self-assured and never lost her shape, nor did she put a foot out of place. In immaculate condition and hardy double coat.  Res to her, PREDDY, Mr I F & BEVIS, Miss Faye & BEVIS, Ms Caro Stecals Pistols At Dawn With Overhill Naf Taf - AKITA – Bitch This youngster has strength and femininity, she has a beautiful head with confident outlook, carriage of head from excellent structure. Just right for body and muscle. She moved with deportment, stride and easy gait with both handlers. Future assured.

Group: Hound.1st. 3652 CALLOW, Ms N Whittimere Spexy Beast.Norwegian Elkhound. He has shape and condition in abundance. His head tapers to a strong jaw and neat lip. Filled dry neck through firm back to tail on top and curled. Goes with even action and style with correct foot fall.

2nd.  3260 HANNEY-MITCHELL, Mrs F Bronia Depictional hound with balanced head, good lay back of shoulder blade and upper arm, with neat elbow and firm leg and foot. Good development of rib leading to short filled loin. good behind and free moving.

 3rd : 3050 JONES, Mrs S B & JONES, Mr K.R. Clanwillow Kiss The Girl - BASSET HOUND – Bitch. honest, well built with supple clean lines. She has a calm confidence, works easily with handler. Very appealing throughout.

 4th : 3461 FARLEIGH, Mrs M L Kinabula's Sassy Souffle - RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK. Sound, stylish and flows from her clean typical head, through fit sound, balanced body. produced in super body, coat and muscle.

Group: GUNDOG – PUPPY. Left out many quality gundogs here .

  1st : 884 DAVIES, Ms R & BRADSTOCK, Mr L & THYGESEN, Mr J  S Skaringen's Isinglass Viii Con Redanimo (imp Nor) - RETRIEVER (CURLY COATED) – Dog. WoW, this is a male that should be used here in the UK, he has so much to offer. A beautiful put together curly, with dry head, well-fitting dark expressive eye down to clean muzzle housing big white teeth. He scores in body proportions and flows through his solid topline to strength in quarters with firm hocks. Super condition and curled dense coat.

 2nd : 1409 MOSS, Mrs Leanne Aust Ch Fieldspan An Unfinished Tale With Ewtor (i - SPANIEL (FIELD) . Dog. The owners are going to have a lot of fun withthis stunning dog. When you go to his head, you are greeted by a total quality blueprint of the breed H, as you go further, he fits the standard so well and is just right for size, bone and balance. Immaculate, stoic and moves with the determined steady action, that says he could go all day.

3rd : 758 WHITTINGHAM, Mrs Suzanne & WRIGHT, Mr Philip Riccini Carmen - ITALIAN SPINONE – Bitch. This is a very useful bitch. Still young, but it’s all there and she displays so many breed essentials. Supple, sound with personality.

 4th : 869 MAYHEW, Mrs C Arnac Bay Kansas - RETRIEVER (CHESAPEAKE BAY) – Dog. Fresh out and can have a very good future as he fits the standard so well, all topped by muscle and super correct, thick water-resistant coat. 

Group: TERRIER - PUPPY

  1st : 201 YATES-JOHNSON, Mrs J M Pendley Olivia - CAIRN TERRIER – Bitch. BPIS.

2nd : 22 TOULSON, Mr N & Mrs H Toulsyork Wondrous Wilma - AIREDALE TERRIER – Bitch. My BPIB.

3rd : 238 TATE, Mrs K & NAGRECHA, Mr Aaron Chandlimore Major For Jaeva - JACK RUSSELL TERRIER Dog. 6 ½ . Mth and typical in balance and character, being up for all asked keeping a super shape. This one will figure manty times. 

 4th : 254 GEE, Mrs R Watercroft Rumour Has It - NORFOLK TERRIER – Dog. As we have come to expect from this kennel, type and quality in plenty here. Great production and no slouch, he put it all in and could not be overlooked.

Group: WORKING - PUPPY

  1st : 4381 WARREN, Mr W & Mrs A Greeneline Forest Of Copperfield - BULLMASTIFF – Bitch. What a strong, feminine healthy youngster, with power and the loveliest of outlines both standing and moving. She has the required width to skull. dark, well-fitting clean expressive eye, muscular cheeks and defend stop to good width of muzzle. She is clean and powerful through forehand and stand on well boned legs to tight padded feet. Correct depth and spring of rib, filled strong loin, not too long to developed rump and good set on to tail. Resolute power and length of stride n the move.  

 2nd : 4527 DUFF, Mr Drew & DUFF, Mrs Anna Titanbears Primatus - NEWFOUNDLAND – Dog. Presents a very well-balanced picture and very satisfying to lay hands on, as structure is very positive. Grand shape with presence and a noble air, all topped by the full gleaming coat in full bloom. Easy typical gait.

 3rd : 4443 CULLEN, Mr & Mrs Kevin & Sandie Philoma Colcannon - GIANT SCHNAUZER – Dog. All quality here, providing a striking muscley, dry outline. This is held on the move which is dynamic for one so young.

4th : 4410 SEWARD, Miss Danielle Elizabeth & MYCROFT, Mrs Sue Supeta's Witch Upon A Star With Elleonia - DOBERMANN – Bitch. Elegant with type and power retaining femininity. She has ground cover and bearing. lovely.

Group: UTILITY - PUPPY

  1st : 2197 PREDDY, Mr I F & BEVIS, Miss Faye & BEVIS, Ms Caro Stecals Pistols At Dawn With Overhill Naf Taf - AKITA – Bitch. Res BPIS.

2nd : 2388 TIMMS, Miss Olivia Olijah Striptease - FRENCH BULLDOG – Bitch. Solid with strongminded forceful character and cheekiness, that adds to the charm. Head is of good size with dome to forehead, full cheeks and strong muzzle with underjaw. Stands on good legs down to small compact feet. The body is filled with good brisket and developed ribbing. Very positive on the move with good foot placement and agility.

 3rd : 2737 BOWNS, . Jackie & Dave Cedarhythe Up To No Good With Bishbow - SHIH TZU – Dog. I have given this puppy a CC already, such was the quality in this group. I found no reason to change my mind; he is a total credit to his owner and breeding.

 4th : 2541 HALL, Miss M D Shenedene Hasta La Vista - LHASA APSO – Bitch. Again, the quality is exacting in this beautifully turned-out bitch. She fills the standard and expertly produced and handled.

Group: TOY - PUPPY

  1st : 1835 KIRKWOOD, Mr G Helydon Zkitto Zkatto - CHINESE CRESTED – Bitch. I admired this bitch the first time I saw her and actually awarded her the CC and best of breed. I found no reason to change my mind today, as she is maturing with type, balance and super carriage, working at one with her unobtrusive handler.

 2nd : 2072 WHITEHILL, Mrs M Amicae Blazing A Trail - PAPILLON – Dog. Gorgeous head, ear placement and dark with good pigmentation and lively outlook. Masculine and well bodied and produced, but not overdone in any department. Moved with true light gait.

3rd : 2117 ARNOLD-STRONGE, Ms E Weaverham Photo Finish For Snugglepug - PUG – Dog. This youngster put all in and kept his shape standing and moving to take his place here.

4th : 2015 BEVIS, Ms F & BEVIS, Miss C & CORR, Mrs R & VENEZI Hawksflight That's A Wrap At Stecal - MINIATURE PINSCHER – Bitch. She has elegance and firm clean lines. Worked with her Hadler to present a classic picture

Group: PASTORAL - PUPPY

  1st : 4220 IRVING, Miss T J Twinan Dragon Rider - WELSH CORGI (CARDIGAN) – Dog. This dog works for type, substance, condition and coat. I loved his head, with flat skull, tapering to muzzle housing width to jaw and big white teeth. He has ear and eye depicting his attentive character. He has super skeletal construction with quality bone, long rib and firm loin therefore his shape never faultiers.

 2nd : 4241 BLANCE, Miss N L & BLANCE, Mrs C B Penliath Catch Me If You Can - WELSH CORGI (PEMBROKE) – Bitch. Hard to separate ist. & 2nd. However, they both show, perfectly the idiosyncrasies of each breed. She is low, but with clearance and is very balanced throughout. In perfect body with dense, expertly produce coat in full bloom. She uses herself well with deportment on the move.

3rd : 3987 DODDS, Mr Neil & SWIFT, Ms Ann Monksley Uschka - GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG – What a class bitch this is.  She flows through and has excellent foot placement with firm hocks standing and gaiting. Must have a future.

 4th : 3866 FOSTER, Mrs C Fostebrie Eva Diva - BRIARD –  The Dry coat ,covers a well-made bitch, of lovely size and proportions, she works with handler to produce an easy , economical action in good company.
