NW&PB………BRIARDS                                                                                                                                Thankyou, firstly to the Exhibitors for giving me the highest entry (37) so far this year, excluding Crufts and to the Society for the hospitality and careful consideration for the Dogs, Exhibitors & Judges in the extreme heat.  I was Pleased to find all charges had been kept as comfortable as possible in the shade of the surrounding trees and other structures and I didn’t keep them in the ring any longer than necessary, so I apologise if anyone felt rushed. All exhibits had the required Double Dew Claws; some a bit longer than they needed to be. All had complete Bites; however not all were Scissor.   There were a number of straight tails and some just about reached the hock, the “J” in so many was absent.                                                                                                                               PD 2 (1 abs) 1st Keogh’s Gilcoru Regi D’Brie, a 7mth super colour Fawn of good size and enough bone, carrying a nice coat with a wave and good texture. Good body and muscle for his age, he has super temperament and is obviously very connected to his young handler. He has a good head piece with lovely eye and a good bite. Neck, Level topline, front and rear all as you would like to find at this age. He moves well and with good reach, covering enough ground for a baby, what he also has is a fabulous long tail, which he carries nice and low with the added bonus of a perfect “j” certainly an excellent prospect for the future. JD 1, 1st Parry’s Stormymoon Is Enough, just over 1 yr, he is a good colour Fawn, with a huge dense coat, plenty of substance and good strong bone, a wonderful masculine head with good eye and bite, good reach of neck and level topline, strong straight front and rear to match, carried tail low, a tad hesitant on the move so wasn’t as free as he could be, another very promising youngster. PGD 1, 1st Rudnicka’s Imax Z Pierwszej Ligi (Imp Pol) a 2.5yr Med sized Fawn of pleasing colour, coat a touch soft at present. Overall, he is very balanced, and on the stand, he shows a very nice outline. Lovely head with good ear set, good strength to muzzle and formed stop, eye could be darker. Dropped flea teeth, totally acceptable in our breed. Moved well front and rear. LD 3,  1st & Res DCC Wilson & Peirson’s Jandade Roi Charles, a 3yr classic type of Black and of good size, excellent coat and texture, wonderful bite with dark pigment as I would expect from his breeding, a nice head which can develop a touch more to complete the picture, lovely strong front and rear, he showed off his nice reach of neck on the stand, moved a bit erratic at times, but certainly gay and lively, nice length to tail, once he gets his act together on the move he certainly will trouble the best. 2nd Wilkinson’s Fostebrie Black Thunder JW. 18 mth black with good jacket, he was giving quite a bit away in age and maturity to 1st, slightly longer in back at present, very nice front and rear angles. Moved with exuberance, carried tail a bit high but is well set, another who once has matured and filled in head and matured in body will be quite a striking prospect. 3rd Thorpe’s Gilcoru Malbec D’Brie JW.  OD, 5 (1 abs) 1st, DCC & BOB Rual-Keogh’s Ch Gilcoru Wolfblass D’Brie, like a fine wine, he has certainly matured into an excellent example of the breed. I last judged him when he was a 9mth puppy, now at 7yrs he had filled his early promise and much more, he is without question a Male, he is a pleasant shade of fawn with dark ear tips and muzzle, he carries a full coat of correct texture, a masculine head with very gentle eye & expression, good bite, strong head piece and nice ear set, neck of good length flowing into a nice length of body, deep chest, straight front with plenty of bone, good rear which he uses well on the move, he has plenty of front reach, moves like a true herding breed should, effortless long strides, head carried not too high and a lovely long tail which he carried central with the desired crook,  2nd Foster’s Ch, Ir & Sui Ch Fostebrie Just Unique, a 5yr striking Fawn another who is a strong male, lovely size and excellent bone, he has a wonderful dark eye and head, his movement is without question effortless and he has a very strong rear which he uses to great advantage. 3rd Holland’s Sel Fr Rafferty De La Chaume Du Bois Dieu. VD/B 4 (2abs) 1st & BV Gaskin & Barber’s Shezmo Lady Midna, well Briards certainly are slow to mature and at 10 plus years this beauty has come into her own, what a delightful type she is, she has a wonderful feminine head, with dark eyes and good bite, excellent pigment, enough bone and straight front with good chest, good reach of neck, coat of good length, in excellent body condition, sometimes loosing her topline, but who wouldn’t at that age. One I certainly considered for the Res CC. 2nd Parry’s Ch Stormymoon Untamed Irish, a fully matured 8 yr Black with plenty of coat, he is of good size with strong bone, slightly long cast to his height, but excellent reach when on the move, he carried his tail fairly low but does have a more pronounced crook. SBD/B 1. 1ST Taylor’s Chavell Secret Affair, a 3yr old fabulous colour fawn, such a pretty head with lovely eye colour and a good bite, she’s a medium size with enough bone for her structure, obviously she is well loved and likes her food, she has a lovely solid straight front and good rear, her movement is very animated she is definitely gay and lively. PB 3, 1ST & BP Foster’s Fostebrie Eva Diva, two rather gorgeous typey black youngsters headed this class, the first had the slightly better length of back for a bitch at this age, I don’t often write two together but they both have so many similarities I would be just repeating myself, fabulous bites and dark eyes, heads both developing well at this stage, nice eye shape and colour, good length of neck and ample bone, the first has plenty of coat 2nd has a more wave and coarseness to hers, both moved really well coming and going and both had long tails which they carried well, excellent temperaments they will no doubt change places many times over the coming years.  2nd Coleman’s Hartswelin Midnight Skye, 3rd Holland’s Champagane Antisc Avalanche. JB 3, 1st Parry’s Stormymoon Limited Edition, a very eye catching paler fawn, with a huge jacket, once she was settled she showed what she was made of, beautiful head with lovely strong teeth and excellent bite, ears carried high, lovely neck and shoulders, good straight front with plenty of bone, appears slightly short in body, level topline, very angled stifle but once she gets the hang of showing she’ll relax more and move more freely, tail carried a little too tight to the body and held very low. 2nd Trimnell G. Vallonne Magical Flame, a nice colour fawn with good coat texture, not as strong in frame and bone as 1 she does have a lovely long neck and level topline, nice tail carriage and the easiest long reaching strides when she’s on the move with super rear extension.  3rd Trimnell I & T Vallonne Magical Illusion.  PGB 3 (1 abs) 1st Thomson & Foster’s Fostebrie Just Finesse, definitely a stronger built young lady, larger all through, another who likes her food, at present she has plenty of coat which is a touch paler in colour than she’ll eventually end up, she is a nice length to height ratio and has a balanced head, with strong muzzle good mouth and dark eye, well carried tail and moved with ease and good reach., nice straight front and rear.  2nd Taylor’s Chavell Secret Affair. LB 3 (1abs) 1st & BCC Ryan’s Fostebrie Pure Binoche for Badgerhurst JW, as a breed specialist, I know there are many “Types” in our breed all of which are totally acceptable, the two in this class were as different as you could possibly get. Both of which I would be happy owning. The winner who is just over 2.5 yrs old still isn’t at her best yet, being Fawn she also has the disadvantage of colour changes. However she won this class and indeed the CC on her fabulous construction leading to her being able to move with such ease and long reaching strides, she held her topline on the move and with correct tail carriage, her head is balanced with correct eye and bite. 2nd & Res BCC Fletcher’s Gilcoru Quaid at Arrowflec. at just over 18 mths she still has a lot to learn, especially controlling her excitement on the move, an ultra-feminine Black with the prettiest head piece, excellent eye and bite, super pigment, long flowing neck, enough bone and width for frame, super coat and texture, because she was like a coiled spring she appeared shorter in back on the move, but on the stand, she showed a very nice balanced profile. OB 8 (5 abs) 1st Hartwell’s Chavell Bonjour Maisie JW , 4.5 yr old Darker shaded fawn of medium size, another with a gorgeous head, dark eye, good bite and dark pigment, nice strong front and ample bone for her structure, lovely tail carriage, and very straight front and rear when moving, however she just gave up on the move in the challenge. 2nd Snelling’s Ch Zhamanen Bezique for Beaugency, a very attractive black of larger frame, she is well balanced for her type and size, excellent coat and texture, very good eye and bite, just for me I would prefer more width and strength all through, 3rd Ryan’s Tand Mystique De La Chaume Du Bois to Badgerhurst.
