Saint Bernards - Judge: Sarah Farrell

I would like to extend my thanks to the Society for inviting me to judge and also to my Stewards for their management of the ring. My appreciation for being first in the ring at 9.00 and for the little shade provided by the trees!

To the exhibitors who entered under me a huge thank you for your entry and particularly for you and your dogs braving the extreme heat.

Class 646 - Puppy Dog.

Class 647 - Junior Dog.

3 Entries, 0 Absentees.

1st - 1652, Venable-Smith, Mrs H. Svanasjons Xtra Special (Swed Imp).

14th month old dog, that is well off for bone. Correct shoulder placement, good dentition. Moved very slightly close behind when going away but should improve with age. Would prefer a tighter eye, and would benefit from working closer with handler.

2nd - 1648, Molyneux, Mrs K, handling for Mrs K.L. Molyneux. Coldlea Simply The Best. Another substantial male of good proportions with good lay of shoulders. Appealing head with good dentition. Moved parallel front and back but also paced on the move which ruined his flow .Eye shape not as clean as class winner.

3rd - 1636, Everton, Mr G. Coldlea Midnight Sapphire.

Class 648 - Post Graduate Dog.

2 Entries, 0 Absentees.

1st - 1638 Forrest, Mrs P & Lucas, Mrs R. Bernmont Sergeant At Philandros. 19 month old well constructed, substantial male that is well off for bone and breed type. I liked his head with broad skull and depth of muzzle. Lovely lay of shoulder and maintained his topline well on the move. Good reach and drive.Reserve Dog CC.

2nd - 1644 Kimberley, Mr L. Handling for - Kimberley, Mr L J & Doherty, Mr A. Towerviewsaints Red Mist (Imp Ire). Substantial male with good bone and angles. Impressive on the stack however rolled a little too much on the move. Good broad head with right proportions and correct mouth. Would prefer a darker eye.

Class 649 - Limit Dog.

2 Entries, 0 Absentees.

1st - 1640 Jeffries, Mrs M & Bell, Mrs R. Kingdom Of The Rock Wielkopolski Bernardyn For Bellfries. Substantial 20 month old male. Loved his bone, excellent spring of rib, depth of chest and overall structure. Masculine head without being overdone, clean well shaped eye, moved with drive and purpose despite the heat. Dog CC. Delighted he passed the vet check with flying colours, and therefore was my Best of Breed.

2nd - 1637 Forrest, Mrs P. & Lucas, Mrs R. Bernmont Allo Allo At Philandros. Not as big as my class winner but nevertheless he is well off for bone and substance. Excellent reach of neck, although slopes slightly at the croup. Preferred eye of my winner.

Class 650 - Open Dog.

2 Entries, 1 Absentee.

1st - 1643 Kimberley, Mr L. Handling for - Kimberley, Mr L J & Doherty, Mr A. Chedham Boys Are Best.  5 year old male who carries an imposing head with good proportions. He is well off for bone and has good width throughout. Would prefer a tighter eye and better dentition.

Class 651 - Veteran Dog or Bitch

0 Entries.

Class 652 - Special Beginners Dog or Bitch

1st - 1652 Venable-Smith, Mrs H. Svanasjons Xtra Special (Swed Imp)

2nd - 1648 Molyneux, Mrs K. Handling for Molyneux, Mrs K. L. Coldlea Simply The Best.

Class 653 - Puppy Bitch

2 Entries, 1 Absentee.

1st - 1635 Clarke, Mr P. & Mrs S. Parleshan Ebony Rose (Imp Ire) 7 month old girl who looks to have a bright future. Lovely shape with a super head and expression. Her eyes and mouth were one of the best on the day. She is well off for bone while maintaining femininity and with all the correct angles. She has a large frame to fill and was just slightly bum high on the day but this will change as she develops. Best Puppy Bitch & Best Puppy in Breed.

Class 654 - Junior Bitch

0 Entries

Class 655 - Post Graduate Bitch

1 Entry, 0 Absentees

1st - 1650 Oliver, Mrs S. Surleval Draig Moondancer (Ba1). Substantial female, well off for bone. Good lay of shoulder. Liked her head and expression, however sadly she had a slightly wet eye on the day. Felt that she was slightly over angulated which appeared to affect her movement.

Class 656 - Limit Bitch

2 Entries, 0 Absentees.

1st - 1646 Milburn, Mrs D. & Mr S. Dawstenbears Out In Style. Slightly finer than my 2nd in class however she is well proportioned and has sufficient bone with a good length of leg. She looked a picture whilst in the class line up with her handler showing her to best advantage. Overall I preferred her movement as she moved naturally and with purpose both coming and going.

2nd 1649 - Oliver, Mrs S, Handling for Oliver, Mrs C. Surieval Draig Sisu (Ba1). This was a good class as two strong females were up against each other. This bitch has a stunning head with the most benevolent expression. Good bite and acceptable eye.She is well off for bone and is correctly angulated with good depth of chest and lay of shoulder. Preferred movement of 1. RCC

Class 657 - Open Bitch

3 Entries, 2 Absentees.

1st - 1639 - Holloway, Mr R. Dawstenbears Rule The World. Lovely substantial bitch well off for bone and substance, however, felt she was carrying a little too much weight on the day, which I believe hindered her on the move.  Correct lay of shoulder, deep chest. Good bite, however, would like a cleaner eye.
