Critique for AIREDALE TERRIERS . FRI 8TH MAY 2026

I would like to thank the committee of the Birmingham National Dog Show for honouring me with the invite to judge the Airedale breed this year. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors for attending and hope that they enjoyed their experience as I did.

It was lovely to see new puppies in the ring to keep the breed going in the future.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (1)

1 FURY. SAREDON THE HUSTLE

4 year old well bodied and muscular. Well groomed with strong and furnishings. Good head and eye. Reasonable neck into a level topline. Used ears well although low set. Moved well when on the move.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (2,1)

1 LEE..STARGUS GALERIUS BPIB

7 mth old youngster learning his trade well. Lovely head and good eye. Used ears well to his advantage. Pleasing flow of neck into a short level back and good tail set. Steady movement front and back. Well proportioned and balanced.Looking forward to watching him grow.

2 TOULSON..TOULSYORK WELLINGTON

Another lovely boy of the same age as (1). Very close competition. Good head and nice small eye. Lovely harsh coat and good furnishings. Slightly longer in back than (1) Good movement. Also a youngster to watch.

1 FURY..SAREDON THE HUSTLE

4 year old as in special beginners class. Handled well again. To take care when face to face with other dogs. Mature boy with clean head and good eye.

2 SIMPSON-JONES..CWMPLENTYN SPIRIT IN THE SKY

Much shorter and cobbier than 1. Short back, reasonable flow of neck into a good tail set. Good head and eye. Moved well with a good stride. May need tighter trimming to show him off to his full potential.

1 FEARNHEAD... SETTLEBECK ROYAL FLUSH JW Shcex Osw

Another strong competition between first and second. 4 yr old Good steady dog on the move. Nice head and eye and good flow into topline. Well groomed ,harsh coat. Well laid down in the hocks with good rear angulation.

2 EASTALL..SHADLISA ON A HIGH TOGETHER AT DAEDAL

A pleasing 2 ½ year old youngster, Great flow of neck into a short level topline when standing. Good depth of chest and a quality coat and furnishings. Good head with dark eye. Slightly unsteady on the move. Would have liked him to use his ears better.

Any of all dogs present could have changed places on another day, such a close competition.

1 BLACKBURN…Ch LUMOSADIE THE FIRE BIRD

I’ve watched this boy since he was a youngster, and he has grown into a handsome mature boy. He stood proud and was happy to be in the ring.

Solid , masculine, pleasing head and eye. Keen expression , used ears well. Good strong neck flowing into correct shoulders, firm level topline and nice tail set. Strong hind quarters.

2 PICKERING...JOLLIVER DAVE JA VU

RDCC

Different type to 1, Very pleasing and in this case very similar qualities but the trimming let him down. Lovely head and expression. Good dark eye. Strong flow of neck into good front assembly. Strong shoulders and short level topline. Good rear angulations. Correct hind quarters . Moved well when settled.

1 TOULSON…TOULSYORK WONDROUS WILMA

A lovely feminine 7 mths old girl who showed much better than her litter brother. A pleasure to watch and to go over. Great head and small dark eye. Beautiful expression , used ears well. Well groomed with harsh coat and good furnishings . Nice rear angulation and well laid down hocks. One to keep an eye on during her show career.

2 LEE…STARGUS ODE TO JOY

Also a lovely 7 mth old girl , with good head , eye and expression. Used ears well. Good neck ,topline in to a pleasing tail set. Not as steady on the move or as confident as 1.

Also one to watch in the future.

1 PURCHON CRILLEE CARRY ON FIRE BABY

1 A very pleasing to the eye 7 mth old puppy girl. Happy to be in the ring and was handled well to increase her confidence. Could have quite easily changed places with the other puppies in minor puppy class, and I’m sure will do in the future classes she is entered in to. Strong feminine head and dark eye , used her ears well . Good flow of neck into shoulders and level topline. Well laid down hocks and good rear angulation. Well groomed.

1 BRAND. JOKYL DAYDREAMER

Lovely compact girl, pleasing head , eye and expression. Short back into well set on tail, good spring of rib, Deep chest and harsh coat. Well muscled hind quarters, moved well. Well set hocks and rear angulations. Slightly nervy to start but once moved settled down.

LIMIT BITCH (4)

1 RUST. JOKYL SONGBIRD

3 yr old Short ,compact female, with pleasing head and expression. Used ears well. Moved steadily and with conviction and power. Shorter neck into a clean level topline and good tailset. Good spring of rib and loin. Well laid down hocks and rear angulation.

2 DU TOIT…BELLAMUNRO ROYAL PIED PIPER

A longer and rangier girl than 1 with some lovely qualities. Good head and eye . Nice well set shoulder s and good flow into a level topline. Went well on the move. Tighter trimming needed to emphasise her good points.

OPEN BITCH (3)

A hard class as some quality females present.

1 RUST…Ch JOKYL POWER LADY BCC and my BOB

A well proportioned girl of sound body and movement. In lovely harsh coat. Lovely fine head and dark eye , good expression. Nice flow of neck into well laid shoulders. Good depth of chest . Level topline and well set on tail. Good rear angulation.

2 SINGH…RUSSTAM DOLLY MIXTURE AT BORDERBRIDGE

A smaller girl to 1 , very petite and feminine with a nice fine head and dark eye. Used ears well. Good flow into topline and good tail set on. Has confidence and character. Handled well although Slightly unsteady on the move. Good depth of chest . Clean neckline. Well laid down hocks and rear angulation.

VETERAN BITCH (2)

1 FEARNHEAD…SINGRETT JUST AN ILLUSION AT SETTLEBECK

Best Veteran.. A 9 yr old in quality condition. Compact and moved well. You could see she enjoyed being shown. Short head with good eye and expression . Short level topline. Excellent coat and furnishings for her age , handled well.

2 TOULSON…TOULSYORK PERFECTIONIST AT TEMTIZ

An 8 yr old also enjoying being shown. Longer in the back than 1 , In good coat and good tail set. Moved well. Used ears well.
