Puppy group

Many thanks to the hard working and Innovative officers and committee at the National Dog Show for inviting me to judge the puppy group, this is an exciting group where we see the future of our lovely Terrier breeds. It was a pleasure to go over so many high quality puppies, I could have easily pulled out 12 for the short list and was really having to nit-pick.  I thought 1 and 2 were exceptional examples and difficult to choose between them.

In the final cut were :- Australian, Cairn, Smooth Fox, Jack Russell, Lakeland, Norfolk, Sealyham, Soft Coated Wheaten.

1             HANNAR, Mr & Ms J & E Borovale Bisto  - FOX TERRIER (SMOOTH) – Dog : An exceptional puppy which immediately catches your attention, he was very lively, which is ok for a puppy, you can see the bone and strength before you get your hands on him. Super head, eye and small v shaped ears, clean neck of good length into well laid shoulders, short back with tail well set on, his front it as straight as a die, together with good rear angulation he went around the ring like he owned it. Pipped group 1 on his attitude and showmanship.

2             CONNELL, Mr & Mrs N & S Sonorra Enchanted Spell - LAKELAND TERRIER – Bitch : So well balanced for a puppy, smart as a pin and presented to the minute. Has a lovely feminine expression, dark eye, well set ears and good strength in her muzzle. Has a good reach of neck flowing into well angulated shoulders, firm topline, tail carried well with enough behind, she has a straight front and good turn of stifle and moved parallel both going away and coming towards. This was splitting hairs between 1 and 2 and could have gone either way.
3             SATHERLEY, Mrs C & SATHERLEY, Mr C W Silkcroft Play On Repeat - SCWT- Dog : Lovely well balanced puppy, presented in fine form. Liked his head shape, has good eye shape and colour, strong jaw with good bite, good neck into clean shoulders, decent spring of rib and chest still to drop some more, he stood well and moved freely for one so young.

4            OULTON, Dr. R.a. & COETZEE, Mrs. R. Whooperhill Love Story - SEALYHAM TERRIER – Bitch  : What a lovely puppy, well schooled and showing her socks off. Well balanced with plenty of substance for her age, liked her head shape and feminine expression, dark eye, well set ears and strength of jaw. She looked really balanced in profile and it all came together when on the move, certainly one to watch.
