I had the absolute pleasure of judging King Charles Spaniels at the Birmingham National Dog Show and it truly was a fantastic day. My sincere thanks go to my capable and supportive stewards, Joan and Bob, who kept everything running smoothly. I was deeply impressed by the overall quality of the dogs presented — all shown in great condition, a real credit to their breeders and owners.
It was encouraging to see continued improvement in the breed, and I was absolutely thrilled with my main winners, though I must say there were several others who ran them very close and would have been equally deserving of top honours on another day. The puppy class in particular was full of promise — I look forward with great excitement to seeing how these youngsters develop.
Thank you to all the exhibitors who entered under me and took my decisions with such charm and grace. I’m also very grateful for the kind words and patience throughout the day. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

Thrilled to award best special beginner.
2nd: 8038 ABBOTT, Mrs H Helmajon Sibelius, well this young man came into my Ring and made quite a presence, I think he decided to sing the whole class. When settled showed a lovely outline. The owner did a great job trying to keep him settled well done.

Six-month-old tricolour dog of beautiful breed type, slightly larger in frame but well-balanced. Appealing head with rich tan, moved soundly and showed with confidence. Needs time to mature but has all the essentials to mature beautifully. Will enjoy watching his progress.
2nd: 8060 MOCHRIE, Mrs Ruth Chacombe Harry On Downsbank
Six-month-old tricolour litter brother, more compact in size with a similarly pleasing head and beautiful rich tan. Moved steadily when settled, but today, was very interested in the smells of the carpet. Still very much a baby, but has the foundations to mature well and I will watch both brothers with interest. They were certainly hard to split.

Tricolour dog who was my star of the day — he entered the ring and owned it with style and confidence. A lovely size, with a classic, correct Charlie head, well domed and perfectly proportioned. Beautifully marked with excellent breed type and a very showy presence. Correct eye, ear, and nose placement contribute to a soft, expressive look. Held a strong topline and moved soundly front and rear. An honour to award him the CC and, later, Best of Breed.
2nd: 8043 BOWLES-ROBINSON, Mrs C Ch Baldragon Shoots He Scores
A quality King Charles Spaniel I have previously awarded top honours, and still a pleasure to judge. Beautifully marked with a lovely head and soft expression. Shown in excellent condition, moving soundly and with purpose. Presented with confidence and style. Just had to give way today to my smaller star, but remains a fine example of the breed.

Winner of Special Beginner Bitch was a Blenheim of lovely type, with a very correct head and good dome. Lightly marked, presenting a clean and elegant outline. Shown beautifully by her handler, whose dogs all displayed excellent temperaments. Moved well, holding a firm topline throughout.
2nd: 8040 ABBOTT, Mrs H Helmajon Smyth's Cadenza, sadly this little girl presented a challenge for her handler who did a great job trying to get her to walk nicely, sadly making it harder for me to assess her. But good job, keep trying you’re gonna get there in the end.

1st: 80 places over and over. I could’ve handed out many first places.
54 KENDALL, Mrs M Headra's Killer Queen
Tricolour junior bitch, larger in size but carrying lovely overall balance and breed type. She has a beautiful head with correctly placed eye, nose, and ears, giving a soft, typical expression. Nice reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders and a strong topline. Moved well and was shown to advantage by her young handler. Just lost a little of her sparkle in the challenge under a different handler, but a quality bitch with much to like.
2nd: 8063 PARADISE, Mrs J L Yeshalomi Jam And Jerusalem With Shardlow
Beautifully marked Blenheim junior bitch, full of presence and incredibly showy. Shown beautifully by her handler. She has a lovely head with correctly placed eye, nose, and ears, and her expressive eyes add to her charm. Moved with drive and enthusiasm, showing strong front and rear angulation. A very nice bitch who could easily swap places on another day.

1st: 8064 RATTER, Mrs Loraine Chacombe Catch A Star For Seafar
A beautifully made postgraduate bitch who truly caught my eye — I absolutely loved her for type, shape, balance, and her exquisite head, all so true to the breed standard. Lightly marked, with a soft, feminine expression and lovely overall quality. Sadly, she just didn’t want to perform today, which was such a shame, as she could have pushed hard for top honours had she chosen to walk in the challenge. Full credit to her dedicated owner who tried everything to encourage her — one to watch when she’s in the mood.

My star of the girls today — a beautiful small tricolour bitch full of charm and presence. She has an exquisite head with a soft, melting expression, and everything in the right place: correctly set eyes, ears, nose, and a beautiful dome. In good coat and condition, she was full of attitude and gave her all every moment in the ring. Moves with drive and purpose. Just needs a little more body to challenge the dog for Best of Breed, but I absolutely loved her.
2nd: 8050 GURTNER, Miss C Una De Melcourt
Tricolour bitch placed second in a nice class , presenting a pleasing overall picture. She has a nice head with a gentle expression, a good reach of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders, and held a strong topline with a well-set tail. Lovely bone and body, with good angulation front and rear, which showed in her sound, confident movement. Shown in beautiful condition by her capable handler. A quality bitch with much to admire.

My Open Bitch winner was a smaller tricolour who caught my eye the moment she entered the ring. She has a stunning head with everything exactly where it should be — correct eye, nose, and ear placement giving a truly classic expression. Shown in beautiful coat and condition, she moved with strength and drive from both front and rear, holding her shape effortlessly. Very pretty and full of breed type, she pushed hard for top honours today, and I was delighted to award her the Reserve CC.

Second in a strong veteran class was a smaller tricolour bitch, very pretty and full of charm. As expected from this kennel, she was beautifully presented and incredibly showy, never putting a foot wrong. She has a sweet, well-proportioned head and shone in the ring with confidence and style. Quite the little charmer — I really loved her. She held her own admirably among strong competition.
