VHC: Norwich Terrier Manchester Dog Show January 2024

I would like to thank Manchester Dog Show Society for inviting me to judge Norwich Terriers for my first appointment in this breed.  Thank you to all the exhibitors who entered and the sportsmanship shown with my decisions. I had two excellent stewards who kept the ring running smoothly, thank you.  What a fabulous entry full of quality. 

PD (5,1abs) What a smashing class to start the day, 4 very smart puppies.

1 Inett & Harrison’s Carradine Primo Donald - 11month old grizzle male. Keen expression with great ears which he used well, super head, well defined stop, good shaped eye. I liked the strength in his head & foreface which I found lacking in some.  Enough length of neck laying into well laid shoulders, short and compact body and moved around the ring with exuberance showing his good character. In great coat and well put down.

2 Crawley’s Ragus Silver Gilt - Bigger dog than the winner, smart and typy. Good strong head with super expression, erect well placed ears and dark eye. Lovely length of neck into well placed shoulders, short and cobby but not as settled on the move as the winner but I believe this was his first show.

3 Armstrong & Egginton’s Ragus Blue Steel.

PGD (2,1abs) 

1 Armstrong & Egginton’s Ragus Blue Steel - Very smart 7 month old B&T pup. He showed his socks off in a very strong puppy class where he was 3rd and I was splitting hairs. Coat on the soft side. He has good bone and feet, attractive head with neat ears but would like to see more strength to foreface. Correct length of neck into well placed shoulders, short in back. He is OK in rear angulation and powered around the ring like he owned it, showing great character. Well handled.

1 Crawley’s Mr Holmes Investigates Ragus - Quality very typy red male of 21 months, standing still he is such an eyeful.  Beautiful head with good dark oval eye.  Lovely bone, great feet, nicely laid shoulders, short and compact body with lovely length of rib. In perfect coat and condition lovely in profile, not the movement of DCC.

1 Crawley & Baldwin’s Ragus Punch Bowl - My star of the day. A lot has been written about this young wheaten man and all very true. He has the most attractive head with the loveliest shaped eyes, good stop and strength in muzzle. Correct length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, short and compact body, great bone and feet. Excellent movement from well angled quarters showing reach and drive.  A Dog Full of Quality. DCC & BOB.

2 Martin’s Ragus Oh Boy - and oh boy what a smart typy 3 yr old this is of the correct size. Lovely head of correct proportions, dark oval eye, great neck and shoulder placement, short and cobby body, in excellent jacket today. Moves well, just a shame he had to meet 1 today. RDCC.

1 Turnbull’s Elantiz Risk It All And See - 9 month old well grown puppy in full coat today. He’s of great type, lovely dark eyes, strong head and strong teeth. Enough neck in well placed shoulders, good bone and great feet. Moved well around the ring for his handler, being a very attentive and happy puppy.

PB (5,0) This was one of the best classes today. A class of beautiful baby puppies, who were all at different stages in their growth. Lovely class to judge and all of them could win on a different day.

1 Crawley’s Ragus Made In Silver - think she should have been “Made in Gold”! This grizzle puppy took my breath away. When she bounced into the ring, I just loved her, she has the greatest expression so alert and happy. Good strong head with great strength in muzzle, well placed ears, correct length of neck flowing into well placed shoulders. Super bone, tight cat like feet, short back with excellent length of rib, well angulated hindquarters which she used to advantage. A little all over the place at the moment but when settled, moved well. I would think she has a bright future ahead of her. BPIB & RBCC

2 Armstrong & Lawrence’s Elantiz I Am who I Am - 9 month old red bitch who I have seen and admired before. Beautiful headed young lady with the darkest eyes, strong foreface, enough length of neck into well laid shoulders. Good spring of rib, great bone and lovely feet. Amazing tail thick at the base as the standard asks for. She moved around the ring in great style, beautifully put down as always from this Kennel,I just thought today she was going through a growth spurt, just needing a little time to come back to herself.

1 Tate & Dragon’s Jaeva In The Purple TAF - Almost 12 months, smart B&T bitch. Lovely strong head with great mouth, she has a keen expression with dark eyes. Excellent length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders, well ribbed body, great bone and tight feet. Short of coat today hiding nothing. Moved out well for her handler keeping a level topline.

2 Furby’s Ragus Monkey Business At Pepperwood - 14 months old red, smart typy bitch with attractive head, dark eye, good mouth with big teeth, enough neck flowing into well placed shoulders, short and cobby showing well, not the movement of 1.

1 Perlich’s Ragus Under My Spell – mature, dark red 3 year old bitch. Stronger bitch, good head with keen expression, makes good use of her ears, enough length of neck into a short cobby body, good mouth, excellent tail which she wagged continually.  Moved out well for her handler who I believe was showing for the first time. BSB

2 Horsewood’s Trutillian Summer Division - 18 month old red bitch full of type. Attractive head but would prefer more strength in muzzle, enough neck, short and compact body, super straight tail which she never stopped wagging, a pleasure to watch.

1 Batey’s Contilly Smoke And Burn - Attractive 18 month old B&T young lady. A good headed bitch with a strong jaw, nice eye, well placed ears which she uses well, correct length of neck, well placed shoulder. Well set on straight tail, move with purpose, smartly presented, went and showed well for handler.

OB (3,0) 3 lovely bitches all slightly different but each having their own qualities. Any one of them could have been my winner but today my winner just out moved them.

1 Stevenson’s Brickin Mint Edition: Stronger red bitch of the three. Loved her head, great stop, dark eyes and strong jaw. Lovely expression. Correct length of neck, well placed shoulders, big ribs and long ribcage. Plenty of bone, tight feet. Good rear angulation, used to advantage as she moved with ease around the ring which won her place.  BCC

2 Hitchen’s Kreatin Truly Extra - Smaller than 1, 3 ½ year old red bitch lovely feminine head, dark expressive eyes, good mouth, correct neck running into well placed shoulders, short and cobby with a good spring of rib. In short coat today, showed well looking lovely in profile.  Well put down as always from this Kennel.
