Such a privilege to judge again at this delightful show thank you Leeds City & DCS for the most kind invitation. My thanks to the stalwart Leeds stewards Ron and Samantha who stuck with my three breeds on gundog day your help was truly appreciated. What a lovely entry some of the best exhibits over the past decade attended and one or two stars of the future were present too. Small teeth was my only main concern, movement generally impressive though the odd hackney action present. Most displayed good width between shoulders with length and solidity. My impression is things are back on the up for the breed perhaps reflected in the later group placings on the day. Thank you to every exhibitor for your most kind entries of your lovely dogs.

1.  HOGG - M-frivilje At Cappercleugh (Imp Nor)

Five and a half year old bitch won her place on her super sound driving movement strong but not coarse bone compact feet firmly padded straight solid front with depth of brisket and moderate deep ribbing. Powerful muscled hindquarters just lacking a tad in furnishings on the day BSB. Congratulations.

2.  CALVERT & SKILBECK - Woodybrook Samburu

Ten months bitch promising well angulated smaller feminine exhibit a tad light in eye in my opinion which will darken with time attractive beard and eyebrows firm back and top-line plenty of fore-chest on show presented in lovely body condition for her age as was her well developed hindquarter muscling.

1.  VINE & HASSELL & NASH - Urvum Hero At Beanalrem (imp Ita)

Eleven months dog l/w impressive all-round youngster super overall construction dense coat with length and true wire texture shaping his structure with attractive developing furnishings. Solid breast-bone and fore-chest depth of correct moderate width good strong bone clean neck excellent length of shoulder and upper arm elbows close though free. Head balanced with correct clean muzzle clearly masculine head at this young age in impression full open nostrils. Correct underline with slight tuck up very positive with driving action on the move and little lift wide slightly sloping croup. Most promising BP, RCC & PG3 awarded group three later in a strong puppy group. Congratulations.

1.  CUTHILL - Caldewriver Kong Quest

Thirteen months l/w another exceptionally sound mover with sweeping profile reach and drive attractive furnishings on show despite some lack of full coat on the day. Excellent breed angulation with slight length stifles well bent good depth of brisket and clean typical underline croup well set. Falling firm back line strong bone close-knit round feet pleasing dark hazel eye colour shape and set alert biddable expression though he appeared to somewhat be feeling the heat on the day.

Two years seven months super typical balanced and proportionate masculine head with moderate stop and correct head planes attractive beard and eyebrows on show splendid dense wire textured coat notably compact well arched feet heavily nailed with strong pasterns correctly set powerfully muscled hindquarters with deep second thighs. I considered him a tad full in ribcage and heavy in bone for me personally and on the day his action did not quite match the movement of the winner in my opinion.

Three years nine months l/w correct medium sized exhibit strong quality bone with strength in the pasterns front and rear the very best of dense wire coat on show impressive for the time of year correctly textured with length and full furnishings on show. Moderate spring of ribcage with length and depth throughout powerful and muscled across the loins correct sloping wide croup and tail set. Deeply muscled hindquarters hocks well set typical head and tail carriage on the move.  A lovely typical breed example CC & BOB short-listed in the group ring congratulations.

2.  JOHNSTON & JOHNSTON & JOHNSTON  - Sh Ch Bel Ch Glenquin The General

Three years strong masculine dog well up to size typical coat texture strong bone proportionate to his build compact firmly padded feet pasterns and hocks correctly set. Typical outline standing with slight extra length of body strong neck of moderate length set cleanly into lengthy strong shoulders firm falling back line well sprung ribcage with depth reaching back full furnishings though beard a tad excessive for me personally. His disproportionate ears in my opinion detracted slightly his expression for me on the day.

Eight months l/w pleasing breed balance and outline with length of body to height coat developing nicely as is depth of body and underline excellent strong puppy bone correct moderate spring of ribcage with length and depth of ribbing. Still leggy in appearance and not the overall strength of the winner on the day notably in neck just needs time to fill out and progress though the basic essentials are all present once her head fully breaks and proportions settle down.

1st: 139 CUTHILL - Caldewriver Monkey Bizz

Thirteen months l/w litter brother to JD winner same correct medium size developing well excellent overall angulation and balanced outline excelling in dense length of wire topcoat for a youngster falling back line solid and firm tail notably well set to wide croup. Good depth of brisket to length of leg solid fore-chest on show correct moderate stop with pleasing dark hazel eye colour shape and set some face furnishings in evidence.

Rising three years l/w lovely feminine head and expression in attractive coat dense and wire textured topcoat alert biddable expression from dark hazel eye colour pleasingly shaped and set good moderate bone and strong slightly sloping front pasterns compact firm feet. Very well angulated overall but for me her head is her most attractive and desirable breed feature.

Four years two months b/w pleasingly medium sized and balanced outline sound front and rear in action though slightly too much lift in front I considered on the day. Strong quality bone compact feet typical well set pasterns attractive head proportions planes correctly set attractive eye colour shape and set. Slightly full in ribcage in my opinion with firm falling back line acceptable hindquarter muscling and reasonable coat presentation on the day including desired texture would have benefitted on the day by carrying slightly less body condition in my opinion.

2.  KEARNS - Rudishaw Waltzing Matilda

Five years ten months l/w attractive well proportioned feminine head with copious furnishings on show though strength of bone rather understated another demonstrating width at the ribcage and excess body condition on the day in my opinion. Strong powerful loins not quite the coat condition or movement of the winner on the day in my opinion.

Three years nine months litter sister to BOB dog I see quality and breed type showing forth in abundance another super sound mover from this kennel with reach and drive in profile lovely balanced breed outline with slight length of body correct topline held firmly on the move with little foot lift on show. Excellent strong bone and pasterns moderate spring of ribcage with length and depth of ribbing hocks correctly set. Powerful muscled hindquarters presented in fit overall condition excellent coating and texture RCC. Congratulations.

Rising five years two months b/w delightful feminine breed outline with slight length and balance correct head and tail carriage coupled with very sound action front and rear. Typical coat with length and depth of wire texture to topcoat excellent strong bone pasterns and firm well padded feet for her years. Another highly typical quality wire in this lovely entry.

Seven years ten months l/w ticked I admired this veteran bitch for her impressive upstanding outline super strength of build and striking breed presence strong clean sweeping neck in to lengthy well placed shoulders with plenty of length to upper arm. Lovely mature feminine head and biddable expression on show full proportionate furnishings in beard and eyebrows neat ears well placed and sized clean tight underline with slight tuck up not reflective of her aging years. Wonderfully muscled hindquarters with deep second thighs hocks well set moved as she is made very soundly with reach and drive to profile action typical head and tail carriage CC & VG4 placed group four in the veteran group at the end of the day well deserved. Congratulations.
