Leeds DS 24th July 2026 – Bloodhounds 

Thank you to Leeds Championship Dog show for inviting me to judge today, a real privilege, which I was extremely glad to accept.  

 Thank you for the competitors for their entry and having the faith in my judging of their hounds. Sorry for the amount of time, I asked you to move the hounds, but they all settled with more movement.

The day was warm but quite breezy and as they do, the tents rattled and blew in the wind, with  the paperwork sailing away on more than one occasion,  that coupled with the loud noise of a Champagne or was it Prosecco cork popping, unsettled some of the hounds to start with, but they soon regain composure and focused on the job in hand.

1st: 1535 ROWLAND, Ms C Castledee Let It Snow

2 1/2-year-old black and tan. Nice clean eyes, good length to leathers with a pleasing masculine noble, not over exaggerated, expression,  but with enough furnishing to be a Bloodhound. Well knuckled feet, good depth to chest, with correct angulation to the hind legs. Coat in excellent condition. Good amount of bone producing a profile that stood over a good amount of ground to give a confident outline with a strong top line.

Settled in to the movement once had got into his stride – here the wind was playing its part in being distracting, seemed to prefer a nice loose lead, as Bloodhounds tend to, giving him his head and allowing a more fluid movement, enabled his gait to be with drive and conviction.  DCC & BOB 

2nd: 1534 PRIOR, Mr John & PRIOR, Mrs Amy Houndseeker Falcon (ai)

2-year-old black and tan, Pleasing eyes and expression, with good length to leathers, coat in good condition, feet could be a little tighter, Good amount of bone to give a strong outline, Good top line. Good depth to chest and rear leg angulation. Pleasing profile in standing.

Was a little unsettled today – the wind again, handled well, moved with drive, the more times went round the ring, then settled, again maybe a loose lead could be an advantage, to allow the hound a free following gait. Once settled movement improved DRCC

1st: 1533 PRIOR, Mr John & PRIOR, Mrs Amy Houndseeker Dauntless JW

4 year old Red, What an amazingly happy hound, so pleased to just be in the ring and say hello to people. Could maybe be a little lighter in frame, masculine expression, good length to leathers, nice feet, stood well giving a good profile. Strong chest with correct depth.  Coat in good condition. Nice angulation to hind legs.

Movement was unsettled, with a sporadic gait, but handled well.

3 year old Blanket Black - Nicely turned out, good clear eyes, feminine face and expression, good length to leather well knuckled tight feet, good depth to chest with correct angulation to hind legs , Coat in excellent condition, good tone to body but still remaining feminine, with good bone,  looking good in  profile when standing .

Moved on a loose lead to give a good confident, fluid stride maintaining a strong top line whilst on the move. Excelled on the move. Very close for best of Breed just preferred the drive of the dog.   So pleased to learn  that today’s win was the 3rd CC and making her a Champion (subject to  RKC approval)-  BCC
 

2nd: 1536 ROWLAND, Ms C Castledee One In A Million

5 year old Black and Tan - feminine in outlook, and expression. Good length to leathers, well knuckled feet. Good depth to chest, good amount of bone and body tone, still with femineity.  Good bend to stifle. Projected a good outline in standing and stood with confidence. 

Took a little time to settle on the move, when did moved with a good fluid confident  gait.  RBCC
