Judging: Hound Group, Ibizan Hound

My first time awarding CCs in Ibizan Hounds, and I was very pleased with the entry of 14; which appears to be slightly above average. Grateful thanks to Liz Stannard and the committee of Leeds for their kind invitation to judge the breed, and also to the exhibitors for turning out on a weekday. Many thanks to my two very nice & efficient stewards also. 

PGD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st) WORTHINGTON, Mrs Nikki J Abbotsoak Ghost Of Magnus, white dog approaching his second birthday. Very good head and expression, correct ears & balance to skull. Liked his front and he has good legs and feet. He needs to mature up as yet through the body & this was apparent on the day. He has good hindquarters & carries his tail fairly well. Goes with a good, typical action & he is pretty well balanced in profile. One to watch I would think. 

OD (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st) CARTER, Mrs Amanda Ch L-wynd's Where The Shadow Ends (Imp USA) JW; one I have judged before & my opinion of him has not changed. Just over two years old, he is a very upstanding chestnut & white dog with a very good outline and balance. Large ears set well; and he has a good lean neck with quite steep blades. Chest exactly where it should be for the breed. In good body & condition and he uses himself very well on the move, carrying his tail as he should. The best of the males here today I felt, as marked by DCC & BOS, his 15th I was told. 

2nd) VESCAN, Ms C & Dr D Peacemaker Apache Baltas Vejas (Imp), quite an upstanding & eye-catching red and white dog, a little larger and longer in body than the winner. I felt he was perhaps verging a little on the big side, but he is balanced throughout and so I did not feel he should be unduly penalised. His head and eye are good, and he does have lovely ears & expressive eyes. His pasterns are good, but his front feet do turn out a little too much, even for an Ibizan. Well bodied & in superb condition and muscle, and on the move, he is particularly typical in profile. Happy to award him the ResCC. 

3rd) CARTER, Mrs Amanda Ch Nevaeh's Radical Dude (Imp USA)

PB (1 Entries) Abs: 0 WD: 1

WHD – very nice type & outline, but unfortunately not at all happy in the ring with the wind today. 

JB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st) MORRIS, Mrs J B Kiki La King Daida Los Delhi (Imp), 14-month-old red and white bitch & I thought upon seeing her that if nothing else arrived today I would have had a comfortable BCC winner. A most promising young bitch, excellent head, eye and expression; beautiful balance to skull & muzzle, expressive amber eyes & large thin ears. Steep in front, and chest where it should be for the breed and for her age. Excellent flat rib cage, short coupled & she has beautiful hindquarters. Was really taken by her and she is very sound and free on the move, with a typical action; just put off a little by the wind on the day which cost her the big green card, undoubtedly a Champion in the making, and more than happy to award her a well-deserved ResCC. 

OB (5 Entries) Abs: 0

1st) TAYLOR, Miss J L Ch Abbotsoak Carousel ShCEx OSW JW, this 8-year-old chestnut and white was a new one to me, but she is a real eyecatcher. Her balance, symmetry & outline are so typical. Lovely head and eye, super ears for both set & size. Loved her forequarters and front, beautiful legs and feet with good pasterns. Chest where it should be, and she has a good topline and good flat ribs; well tucked up & short in loin. Very good hindquarters which she uses on the move & she is considerate where she places her front legs on returning. I thought she was really lovely, and well deserved the BCC & BOB, her 31st CC I was told. Shortlisted in the Veteran Group. 

2nd) VESCAN, Ms C & Dr D Gorgona De Entresaltos (Sp Imp), 5 year old red and white bitch & she is very typical and perhaps a little more workmanlike than the winner. Not quite the balance of skull as the winner and perhaps has a little more stop than ideal, but her head is not unattractive. The winner was a little better in shoulder & pastern, but there is not a lot between them in terms of body proportions and balance. Had a hard task to match the winner up and back, but she is good in profile and she was only outmarched for the ResCC by the stunning young JB. 

3rd) HAMILTON, Mrs Joan Heiedra La Princess Rosa De Podi With Harrisclub (IMP)

VB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st) CARTER, Mrs Amanda Ch Afilador Room On The Broom Sh.CM VW ShCEx, 11-year-old chestnut and white bitch and what a credit to her owner/breeder she is. Belies her years, still retains her lovely head and expression, frosted with years of knowledge and wisdom! In good body and smashing condition for her age, sound and free on the move and a bitch to be proud of. Lovely.
