Official Judges Critique

Judging: Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Terrier Group

Many thanks to Leeds Championship Show for the opportunity to judge at this show.  I must say I was blown away with the quality of dogs that entered, and proved challenging at times, especially when it came to my final decision making. Unfortunately for some they left the ring unplaced. The overall feel about the show for me felt very positive from inside the ring which was backed up with the echoes of applause from outside throughout the day.  I had a very enjoyable and positive day.

I would like to thank all the exhibitors who gave me the opportunity to judge their dogs, I must say it was an honour to judge, a breed I love and I’m passionate about.  The overall quality has improved slightly since I last judged, but there are still a few concerns.  Narrow fronts are still evidential, fronts that are out on the shoulders/elbows.  Movement, a Stafford should move with drive and purpose. Ribs also, little had the desired spring that they should have.  However, I did not see any evidence of closed nares or breathing issues despite it being a hot day.
