To say I was disappointed with the number of entries and the amount of dogs that were actually on the floor would be an understatement but I firmly believe in quality over quantity and there certainly was quality. I offered beautiful personalised rosettes for my principal winners which seemed gratefully received. I thank all exhibitors who sought my opinion and appreciate the entries and quality that appeared before me today. Thank you!!

One observation that I will make is that I feel some are just getting a bit too small and low on leg. However, all of the Chows today were of great temperaments and all appeared to be very well presented, which I appreciate greatly.

1st: 5054 GREEN, Mr R Southern Skies Shame On The Moon Among Jamarhys.

14 month shaded red who makes a fabulous shape, he's a great make and type with all the essentials, he has a gorgeous unexaggerated head with really lovely dark eyes and good pigment, neat well set ears with good width of skull, good muzzle af correct proportions,  good bone, up on his toes and neat feet, good chest and rib and holds his topline level, firm rear with moderate angles and a high set tail with a good plume and carried over well, his harsh double coat was well fitted in the right places and correct for texture, presented well he was sound and typical on the move holding his shape well, unhurried and an air of self importance. Really loved this boy and he won a well deserved RCC today. I would have happily signed a CC for him but today he was just pipped by the more mature open male winner. I have every faith that he will go on to gain his crown in due course. I shall follow his career with interest.

15 month red who as the cliche goes ‘was unlucky to meet 1st’  I liked him very much, presented to perfection, his coat was correct, soft undercoat and harsh outer, in the right places and the correct texture, he is a handsome lad with a really good head piece too, dark eyes and neat ears, good muzzle and pigments, sitting on a firm neck, good ribs and topline, high set tail on his chunky rear which was moderately angulated to give the correct movement. I'm sure both 1st and 2nd will swap places on different days and are both likely to have a very bright future.

Shaded red of 3 years ,  pleasing shape and type and a decent size,  correct bite with good mouth pigment, good bone, level topline, harsh coat high set tail carried well over, would prefer a darker eye but his expression was good, moving ok.
2nd: 5069 SPANIAS, Miss Christina Charids King Of Hearts

smaller shaded red, nice overall shape with good proportions, thick, firm neck and a level topline, a nice head with dark correct shaped eyes and a good muzzle with width across skull, would like a neater ear, moved ok holding his shape.

1st: 5061 IRWING, Mrs T Ch Beaconpride Trick Or Treat JW

Really like this boy, I gave him one of his first, maybe even his first reserve CC as a minor puppy, he has matured into a fine example, a lovely typey ChowChow, his body is square and well made, firm and in good muscular condition, good bone on his straight front and neat feet and well up on his pasterns, his  ribcage is good, short coupled and holds a firm, level topline, his chunky rear has correct moderate angles and a high set tail, with a good plume and carried well over,  dressed in a harsh coat, well fitting and in the right places, he was presented to absolute perfection, i loved his head, with his oval, dark eyes of correct size, good width of skull and neat, well set ears. good muzzle , well padded and with a correct bite and mouth pigment,  unhurried stilted gait and holding his shape all around coming back to a four square stand. pleased to award him the CC and best opposite sex. He really pushed the pretty bitch hard for BOB today but had to settle for BOS. Both are outstanding examples of the breed & I am sure they will both keep adding to their impressive careers. A pleasure and an honour to judge this boy today.

shaded red boy of 4, very nice overall, good head with dark eyes, well padded muzzle and fill under eye, good mouth and pigment, a shade longer cast that 1st but he has good bone, a good rib cage and a level topline both stood and on the move, harsh coat and presented well. A worthy Champion.

13 month red, really lovely, but wish she were a shade bigger, fabulous neat feet and well up on her toes, her body is good in terms of proportion and build, firm and moderately angled rear, feminine and pretty with an unexaggerated head, dark eyes and neat ears, lovely mouth, width of skull, makes a nice square shape, sound and typey on the move.

correct balance and shape overall pretty headed girl, good bite and pigment, dark eyes, neat ears and width across top skull,  nice bone and well up on toes, rear legs falling under hip with moderate angles, sound on the move just a little wide in front.

shaded red on the small side, very pretty in head though with lovely dark expressive eyes, nice bone and straight front, well ribbed, in good harsh coat which was well presented, sound on the move but just a little close behind.

Another i judged earlier in her career, in fact i gave her best baby puppy in show at the same show trick or treat got the reserve CC, she too has matured into a super feminine well proportioned example of the breed, she is dressed and presented in a shaded red coat of correct harsh texture with a soft undercoat, leonine in appearance she has a true scowl, her head is a delight with width to skull, a good muzzle with enough fill under eyes, good pigment and correct bite, dark eyes set well and neat ears slightly inclined toward each other, she has a firm neck and good shoulders, straight front with good bone and up on her toes on her neat feet, body depth correct and she has excellent ribs, short in couplings which gives her a great outline, she holds her topline firm and level and her chunky rear is correctly angulated with her rear feet falling under the hip, her tail is set and carried well and she moves out with style, keen and eager to please she might occasionally appear a bit over exuberant, but i'd rather that than bored. I love judging dogs with character! I was very happy to judge her again now mature and award her a well deserved CC and today she was also my Best of Breed against the very lovely male. Both such worthy winners & of outstanding quality. They will surely add plenty more wins to their already impressive careers. Delighted that I got to judge and reward such quality in this bitch today. Congratulations!

2nd: 5049 FISHER, Mrs L Ch Poppykins Golden Nuggett

3 years and looking superb, pretty in head and outlook and a shade longer cast than the winner, however she is well made all through and has a fabulous head, neat ears and good mouth and pigment,  up on her toes and moving well with correct movement, just not the showmanship of 1, but great value for the reserve CC today. Thank you for bringing her. A lovely girl.

A quick note for this bitch as I think she was also very lovely and completed a really quality class of mature bitches in this competitive open bitch class. She too was a joy to judge and I'm sure all three bitches could swap places on different days. She could and should gain her crown as the 1st and 2nd places have too.
