DRIFFIELD CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW

DRIFFIELD CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOW SOCIETYMr M GILCHRIST
Judging:
Driffield 25 – Shih Tzu
My thanks to the officers and committee for this appointment, and to my stewards for helping so efficiently. Unfortunately the ring was quite uneven in places with tufts of grass which did nothing to help the movement of such short legged breeds. Temperaments were excellent as per usual and standard of presentation was very good, clean dogs well presented, and clean hands by the end of judging. I found no major issues in this appointment which caused me concern.

1st: Skawska’s Norboo Bobby Dazzler Of Mapimakastar
Pleasing enough all round, balanced head of good proportions, sufficient muzzle length, decent bite and nicely placed eyes. Would prefer marginally more muscle-tone to the body. Good chest depth, well ribbed back, level top line. Moved well going away easy to see his pads, front slightly less positive but acceptable, feel better muscle development would help in this area. Feel he is a bit of a slow developer, and will improve with age.
2nd: Skawska’s Mrs Magdalena Norboo Theodore
Also pleasing all round, but not finished in the body development. Pleasing head, nicely set eyes, good muscle length, and nicely set jaw. Well coated, nice shoulder placement, but as per the winner he would benefit from better muscle over them to aid control. Good depth to chest and ribs go back nicely but needs a little more muscle over the loin. Top line firm and moves well.

1st: Cutts & Smith’s Buttons Dream A Dream
8 year lad, who still thinks he is a young buck, and has a happy disposition. Broad head with well set eyes, decent length to muzzle, good neck and well set shoulders. Top line not quite so level. Moved with steady action, needs a little more muscle tone over all.

If you are looking for an example of a Shih Tzu character, this young lad has bucket loads. Pleasing head for one of his age. Nice muzzle length, nicely carried on a good neck, well set shoulders. Chest is coming on nicely both in depth and width. Quite loose on the move but shows much potential, he certainly has the drive, just not the control. Well-presented coat.

Impressive youngster, lovely well balanced head, nicely proportioned, good eye, muzzle and bite. Strong neck, well laid shoulders, depth and breadth of chest good for his age. Sound top-line, stacks well on the table, but not quite as steady on the move, not helped by the uneven surface of the ring. Once he is in his stride, he can move with confidence and ease. I think he is likely to have a great future. One to watch for sure

1st: Barrell & Barrell’s Chanikos My Mystery Dream Via Javerda JW
Very impressive, masculine without being coarse or overdone. Lovely balance to head, good eye colour, muzzle length as it should be, strong underjaw and with a lovely expression. Good neck, nicely laid shoulders. Chest broad with depth, sound top-line, nicely muscled throughout. Front angles compliment those at the rear and this allows him to power around the ring, just flowing whatever the surface threw his way. Put down to perfection, coat immaculate. DCC & BOB
2nd: Brown’s Rossvale I Have A Dream
Very tidy, well put together youngster, which I feel is slower in maturity than some of a similar age. Nicely balanced head, good eyes and muzzle, decent neck. Shoulders nicely laid, decent depth to chest and well ribbed back. Rear and front angles complement each other, moves well enough, and has drive for sure. Feel all he needs is time to fill out a little more.

1st: Crossley & Crossley’s Santosha Night Shade
Masculine with a very heavy coat of the correct texture, so nice to the touch. Head broad, balanced correct muzzle length. Nicely set eyes, broad muzzle and under jaw, good layback to shoulders, decent depth to a broad chest. Sound top-line, good rear, lovely set and carriage to the tail. Moved well in the class but less settled in the challenge.
2nd: Stevens’ Peekin Reggie Rebel-tu
Not as quite as masculine as the winner, but nonetheless, still a well put together exhibit. Overall balance is good. Pleasing head, eyes and muzzle, but knows how to appear to be aloof, a true oriental view of the human race at times. Decent neck, pleasing shoulders, broad enough chest, with depth to it. Sound top-line, good rear, carried himself with dignity, but felt he did not give enough of himself on the move. Another fared less well on uneven surfaces in the ring

1st: Howard’s Ch Tameron Mr Penhaligon's
Surprisingly well matured for one still so young. He has balance for sure, pleasing head and expression, good eye set, adequate muzzle length, and decent neck. Beautifully laid shoulders, broad and deep chest. Sound top-line, nicely set tail, strong loin, and nicely muscled throughout, but I feel he could fill out a shade more. His movement was as near to perfection as it’s possible to get. However, I just preferred the masculinity of the CC winner. RCC
2nd: Fairley’s Ch Rossvale Wildest Dream Jw
What I can say about this one I can say of his kennel mate. Both beautifully made exhibits, great heads, sound fronts and rears, correct top-lines, good bone, beautifully presented coats etc etc. What was the deficit in both cases was the reluctance in the movement. It’s such a shame, had they performed as they are physically constructed and capable of, they would have made my decisions so much harder. One has to judge a dog on the day.

1st: Skawska Mapimakastar Jasmin Jol Ja
Pretty young lady who knows her own self, quite confident and showy. Pleasing head, decent bite, clean and well set eyes. Nicely ribbed for one so young, decent shoulders, good top line, strong rear which she uses well when on the move
2nd: Thornton’s Norboo Palmer Violet
Very tidy girl, presenting a good outline. Pleasing head carriage, although she doesn’t always quite hold it on the move, seems easily distracted. Strong neck, good shoulders, and correct top line. Good rear, she has drive, but tends to lose her front when coming towards as she is busy looking elsewhere rather than where she is going

Similar in type to the winner just a shade raw at the moment. Pretty head with some developing to do, certainly feminine. Lovely melting expression, clean well set eyes, needs more muscle all round. Very busy on the move but needs that muscle to give her the control she needs. She has time on her side to finish well.

1st: O’Donnell’s Santosha Senorita At Chiachi
I think she has all the makings of an impressive bitch. Loved her head, classic correct shape, well placed eyes, correct muzzle and under jaw, Strong neck, lovely shoulders and sound firm top line, angles at front and rear as they should be, just needs a bit more development in the spring or rib and depth to chest. She has time on her side and I feel it will serve her well in the future.
2nd: Skawska’s Mapimakastar Lady Sat Al
Happy little madam, very aloof expression. Good neck and shoulders, didn’t hold her top line on the table very well, but far more firm and relaxed when on the floor, Decent chest and ribs, nicely coated and she can move well when she puts her mind to it. She needs time to finish.

Three lovely girls in this class all showing much potential all showing much potential for the future
1st: Brown’s Rossvale's Got The Look. JW
Indeed she does have the looks. Beautiful shape to the head. Correct set and shape to the eyes, adequate muzzle length and good chin. She carries her head so well on the move given her neck and correctly placed shoulders, she had the deportment one expects for the breed. Good top line, good depth chest with spring of rib, strong loin. Apart from one small stumble, moved with drive and grace. Surely has a bright future
2nd: Sullivan’s Santosha Black Charm At Jacquinta
Classic correct head, nicely proportioned, correct set and colour for eye, has quite a melting expression. Decent neck and shoulders, well ribbed back and lovely depth of chest. She can move with drive and this she did helped by good angles fore and aft, but is a shade apt to rush at it at times, before getting into her stride.
3rd: Williams’ Paliden Starlight Kisses

1st: Howard’s Tameron Miss Ruby Orchid
Came into the ring as if she owned it. Undoubtedly confident and very much the show girl. Feminine head, but still correct, I loved all the proportions of it. Eyes well set and dark and very expressive eyes, one moment looking through you and next give a coy and alluring glance. Good neck and shoulders, sound top line, good angles fore and aft and she has full control of front and rear and the move. BCC. Lost out on BOB as I felt the dog was more mature and moved a shade better in the challenge
2nd: Brown’s Rossvale Dreaming Again
Another from this kennel which like all of her companions from this breeding has lovely heads on them, never anything to fault. Lovely eyes in both set and colour, very good at ignoring the judge with just the occasional side glance when she thinks you’re not looking. She’s nice and she knows it. Basically sound all round, good top line, good angles fore and aft, basically needs a shade more time to finish. Being picky, I would have liked to see a shade more confidence in her performance
3rd: Scott’s Honeyshuchun Sand Goddess

1st: Steven’s Ch Peekin Hoi Tee Toi Tee-tu
One I have done well before, and she is a pleasure to go over. Not quite sure how she presents to be aloof and serene at one and the same time, but she does that with ease. Watching her carriage of her head and general deportment as she sails around the ring is both a pleasure and a delight and even the odd stumble on uneven ground fails to phase her as she doesn’t even acknowledge it. Nothing about her construction I would want to change. Perfect presentation and a worthy Champion for sure. RCC
2nd: Crossley’s Ch Santosha Silhouette
It's a bit clichéd to say that she was unfortunate to meet the winner, but I was hair splitting between these two. Lovely head, eye set correct, as was the colour of them, lovely expression. Again there is nothing about her I would wish to change, she moves correctly as she was constructed correctly and is a worthy champion too.
