Judging: Gundog Group, Hungarian Vizsla

Judge: Victoria Wilkins (Velvetquest)

Delighted to judge my second breed at this most prestigious show. I can't thank the exhibitors enough for entering under me and supporting future judges. The dogs shown under me were full of quality and turned out in the fittest of conditions, something which I think this breed excels in for a HPR - truly fit for purpose. I thought my final placings excelled in type and condition, and they did the breed proud in their respective groups. Thank you again.

1st: 1531 LAYTON, Mr S Layways All About You. Just loved the character of this youngster who lit up the ring as he enjoyed every moment. He has the makings of a quality dog, developing at just the right pace for his age and showing promise. I thought he had good balance throughout. Strong bone without being overdone, firm pasterns, and neat, tight arched feet. Deep through the chest with a clean, strong topline and a correctly set, well-carried tail. Powerful, muscular neck and well-shaped ears completing a pleasing picture. Moved with purpose and ease when settled. Delighted to see him win the puppy group. Congratulations and best of luck in future. BEST PUPPY AND PG1.

1st: 1535 WATSON, Mr P Oakswarren Trickster. Another one I could’ve easily given top honours to. Moved around the ring with ease, striding out with graceful movement. Such a noble head with expressive eyes with good muzzle and head proportions. Strong, arched neck blending cleanly into well-laid shoulders. Possesses plenty of bone and tight, well-shaped feet. Deep through the chest with a short, firm back and muscular loin. Well angulated in rear.

Two gorgeous boys in this class who I fell in love with – different types in both of them, but oozing with quality.

1st: 1533 MILES, Ms Emily Sh Ch Layways Van Winkle JW. As soon as he moved around the ring I couldn’t take my eyes off him! On the move he was everything the breed calls for – graceful, elegant and lively, with drive from the rear and reach from the front. He doesn’t disappoint when you get your hands on him either. Although stronger in head than 2, he had good muzzle and head proportions, expressive eyes and neat ears. He scores in balanced angulation. Super depth to the brisket and chest. A dog of real quality, combining power and grace in equal measure. His outline is masculine yet elegant, with flowing lines that create a truly eye-catching silhouette. Captivating to watch both standing and in motion, he gave a polished, effortless performance in the challenge and later in the group. Beautifully presented and handled to advantage. BEST DOG AND BEST OF BREED.

2nd: 1525 BRADLEY, Ms Elaine M Sh Ch Highforce All Or Nothing JW ShCEx OSW. What I loved about this dog was the condition he is shown in – hard, muscular and easy to see him working all day out in the field. A true fit for purpose HPR. My notes say what an expression and head to die for and it’s absolutely true in my opinion. Scores in front angulation from the neck, leading into well-placed shoulders. Good bone without being overdone, short in back and well-ribbed back. Such muscular hindquarters which gave him that effortless drive around the ring. Today I just preferred the overall picture of 1st place, but this is a super boy and I couldn’t not award him RESERVE BEST DOG.

Class 809 SBB (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1527 BROWN, Mrs Steff Russetmantle Lustre. Nice, typey bitch with clean lines who won this class on movement today. Medium sized, feminine throughout with nothing overstated. She wasn’t co-operating the best with her handler today, but she still has plenty of good qualities to secure the class win. Feminine head, good, strong muscular neck. Showed reach and drive from behind with her lively movement and held her tail and topline on the move. Handled patiently to get the best out of her. BEST SPECIAL BEGINNER.

2nd: 1530 JONES, Miss Victoria & JONES, Miss Shelby Silvestre Wednesday. Very similar comments apply to this girl. Finer throughout than 1st place and not as positive on the move today. Liked her front angulation and neat, tight feet. Would prefer a little more depth in chest and brisket, but well ribbed back. Well done.

Class 810 VB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1524 BRADLEY, Ms Elaine M Sh Ch Vizslanya Vivmany By Highforce JW Sh.CM ShCE. My notes say ‘wow!’ and what a wow girl this is. I can hardly believe she is 11 years old – such a credit to this breed and her owner. Moves like a youngster with effortless stride and grace, eating up the ground as she moves and commands your attention. Totally feminine throughout. Correctly set ears and a moderately long, slightly arched neck giving a strong yet feminine impression. Neck flows smoothly into well-laid shoulders, short, firm back, and a level topline. Ribs well sprung with balanced angulation fore and aft. Stands on neat, tight, arched feet. Coat short, dense, and gleaming. Delighted to see her placed in a quality veteran group later that day. A pleasure to get my hands on. BEST BITCH, BEST OPPOSITE SEX, BEST VETERAN.

Class 813 JB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1528 HARDY, Mrs D & PHILLIPS, Mrs Elizabeth Nevedith Golden Reign At Szelfuto. Stood alone but thoroughly deserving of her place. Attractive, feminine head with a clean, elegant neck blending into well-laid shoulders and a balanced upper arm. Chest still developing, as expected at this stage, but showing promise for maturity. Ribs extend well back with a pleasing bend of stifle.

Class 814 PGB (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1530 JONES, Miss Victoria & JONES, Miss Shelby Silvestre Wednesday

2nd: 1534 SPAVINS, Mr Scott & SENIOR, Miss Alice Wallaroo Zendaya. Nice typey movement to this youngster but preferred the overall balance of 1st place today. Thought she had good depth of chest, well ribbed and nice bone retaining femininity. Short back with firm topline which she held on the move.

Class 815 LB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1523 HARDCASTLE, Mr Derek & BRADLEY, Ms Elaine Castledogley Firenze JW. Well-proportioned head with a gentle, intelligent expression. Shows plenty of substance while maintaining femininity. Strong forechest and good length of rib, giving balance and strength through the body. Rear quarters angulated with good amount of muscle and width to thighs. Covered the ground well with an easy, fluid stride. She showed excellent ring presence and pushed for higher honours, only beaten by her kennelmates.

Class 816 OB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1522 HARDCASTLE, Mr Derek & BRADLEY, Ms Elaine Sh Ch Vizslanya Sziena JW ShCEx OSW. This kennel really does known how to keep their dogs in fantastic condition and this girl was no exception. What super muscling she has, shown in fit, hard condition, everything that the breed should be. Excellent example of the breed, displaying true type throughout. Refined head with dark, expressive eyes and a clean, elegant neck leading into a straight front and well-laid shoulders. Short, level back with well-angled hindquarters completing a balanced outline. She met every expectation and moved with purpose, showing impressive reach and drive. I just couldn’t take my eyes off the veteran in the challenge, but a worthy RESERVE BEST BITCH.
