Thank you to the City of Birmingham Canine Association for the privilege of judging Irish Setters at their show. I had been looking forward to this appointment since before Covid affected us all. A big thank you must also go to the exhibitors who entered their beautiful Irish Setters. I was delighted to find such quality in the breed.

Class 2683 SBD (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6027 CORLESS, Mrs S S Swiftlark Invincible JW 

A well boned 2 year old Irish Setter with a lovely expression and dark eye. Correct front assembly and a good body. I would like to see more length in the second thigh.
2nd: 6008 BENTLEY, Mrs Helen Penclippin Jubilee Flame
This younger boy has a lovely top coat and was in great condition. Good length of foreface. I would like to see a stronger topline and less rounding over the croup.

Class 2684 VD (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6025 CORLESS, Mrs S S Swiftlark First Knight VW 

A lovely 8 year old boy with correct substance and bone.  He has a dark eye, great expression with good length of foreface. A good topline but a steeper croup than I like.
2nd: 6101 RUSSELL, Mrs J Strathmead Huckleberry Of Settesoli
Another 8 year old boy. Slightly broader in skull. Lovely tight feet. Correct angles and good depth of body. Moved well going away.

Class 2685 MPD (3 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6099 RICHARDSON, Miss L H & RICHARDSON, Mr & Mrs J & L Bardonhill McIntosh Red at Montgreenan 

A typical puppy, covered the ground well. Excellent bone with tight feet. A lovely shaped head with good length in the foreface. Dark eye. He has the correct length of second thigh. Correct tail set. 

2nd: 6105 SLATER, Mrs Catherine Robinson & FLINDERS, Miss Em Kerryfair Misty Morning TAFAnother promising puppy with correct body length and tail set. A slightly more feminine head with beautiful ear set. I would like better layback of shoulder and more length in the upper arm.

1st: 6103 SHEPHERD, Mrs S CASACHARED CONNORS DELANEY

An exuberant puppy with a larger broader head. Well boned with good feet. Correct tail set. Because of his exuberance he was inclined to lift his front legs a bit high.

1st: 6021 COLE, Mrs S Riverbrue Ophelia Bobby

This boy has a very good body with good topline and covered the ground well. A lovely dark eye with correct low set ears. Slightly broader in skull than I prefer. Tight feet. His coat is very curly which the Irish Setter standard does not encourage.
2nd: 6059 HOLEHAN, Miss W Loganrish Out On The Town

A beautiful colour on this boy. I would like a bit more length in the foreface and a darker eye.He has good bone with tight feet. The slight drop in croup effects the overall balance on the move.

Class 2688 YD (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6082 MILLIGAN-BOTT, Mrs D & BOTT, Mr J Thendara Big Love

A beautifully presented boy in great condition. A different head type and would like it slightly more refined. Lovely dark eye. Correct fore and hind angulation with correct tight feet. Slightly longer in loin. Moved well. RDCC
2nd: 6035 DAVISON, Mr & Mrs Susan & Paul BARDONHILL MILLION REASONS
Another boy of beautiful colouring but a slightly curlier coat than I prefer. A good length of head but would like more strength in the muzzle. Tight feet. Correct topline and tailset.

Class 2689 GD (10 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6094 PRANGLE, Miss Claire & RUTHERFORD, Mrs Patricia Clonageera Touch of Gold

Another beautifully presented boy with correct coat. A correct head with level planes although slightly stronger than I prefer. Beautiful low set ears. Correct forequarters and hindquarters with tight feet.

2nd: 6028 CORLESS, Mrs S S Swiftlark Spellbinder

This boy is in good condition although has a more curly coat than I prefer. He has a dark eye with good head planes. Correct feet. He is not as strong in topline as my first place. I would like a slightly longer second thigh.

1st: 6085 NEEDS, Mrs Anne & NEEDS, Mr William Covarney It Takes Time With Stourford JW

A lovely boy with a good coat. Dark eye with good planes although a bit heavy in the head for me. Well boned with tight feet. Correct length of neck. Good length of body.  Pleasing hindquarters with correct tail set.
2nd: 6052 HEMMINGS, Mr D & HOLEHAN-GREEN, Mrs Wendy Orlanset Mandolin

This boy has a lovely dark coat. Correct topline and tailset. Would like darker pigment around the eyes. Correct low set ears . Good length of neck that flows into correct topline and good tail set. I would prefer more hind angulation. Not as steady going away as I prefer in hind movement.


Class 2691 LD (10 Entries) Abs: 4
1st: 6051 HEMMINGS, Mr D & HEMMINGS, Mrs K M Orlanset A New Flame

A beautiful dark coat but has a bit more curl in the feathering than I like. Dark eyes but would like darker pigment around the eyes. Very good bone. Correct topline and tailset on the move.
2nd: 6084 NEEDS, Mrs Anne & NEEDS, Mr William Covarney Paco Rabanne At Stourford

Another boy with a beautiful coat. Heavier in the head than I prefer. Lovely low set ears. Neck in to shoulders not as smooth as first place. Good bone and substance. Correct angles fore and hindquarters. Topline let him down on the move.


Class 2692 OD (9 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6029 CROCKER, Mr B A & LEWIS, Miss C Riverbrue Wonderwall At Hernwood

A beautifully presented boy with excellent coat. Substantial bone and correct substance. Correct length of neck which flowed in to a correct topline. Slightly longer in body.

Correct head with good length, excellent planes and low ear set with dark eyes. Kind expression. Excellent hindquarters and tail carriage. Covered the ground well on the move. This boy pushed his sister hard for Best of Breed. DCC
2nd: 6102 RUSSELL, Mrs J Sh Ch Lynwood Hocus Pocus At Settesoli JW
Another boy with very good bone. Strong topline and correct tailset. Correct expression with low set ears. I would like more strength in the foreface to balance the head. Another coat that is too wavy and not as the standard requires.

A well bodied, well balanced girl with excellent bone.  Good length of head with a kindly expression. Level topline with good tail set. A curlier coat than I prefer.
2nd: 6009 BENTLEY, Mrs Helen Penclippin Celtic Asthore
A lot younger girl that needs time to mature. Finer boned than I prefer. Good length of head with correct planes. Correct low set ears. A balanced body but steeper in the croup.


Class 2695 VB (4 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6012 BOUGEN, Miss L Gwendariff Lily the Pink

A pleasing 7 year old girl with good bone. A more refined head and would like more length of muzzle. Correct body proportions Slight dropping away at croup. Moved well.
2nd: 6107 STEVENSON, Mr & Mrs G & C Lochlorien True Detective Is Andley

An 8 year old girl slightly finer boned than first place. Pretty head with good planes but slightly drooping eye. Moved well.


Class 2696 MPB (4 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6088 OZOG, Ms Agnieszka AMBERLOVE ALLURING DANCER (A.I.)

A taller 6 month old bitch with good bone. Beautiful dark coat. Head is of good length with lovely long low set ears. Slightly longer in the body.

2nd: 6073 KENNEDY-SLOANE, Mrs G Twoacres Contrary Mary
A more refined bitch than first place. A pretty head with good ear set. Dropped away over the croup which affects the flow and balance on the move.


Class 2697 PB (7 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6093 PRANGLE, Miss Claire Clonageera it's a New Dawn at Heathclare

A stronger built 11 month old bitch with excellent bone. The head is of correct proportions with a beautiful refined skull and level planes. Beautiful expression. Correct forequarters but would like more length in second thigh. Would also like a stronger topline but that can come with maturity. Moved well.
2nd: 6032 DALE, Mrs Gillian CASACHARED CONSTANCE TALLY OF AUBANJON
Another beautifully coloured girl with good depth of body. Pleasing expression with low set ears. I would like better lay back of shoulder as the higher shoulder interrupts the flow of neck in to shoulder. Correct tight feet.

Class 2698 JB (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 6091 PETERS, Miss Lillie-Amber CORRANROO VIENNESE WALTZ TO SHIRLILAH

A younger bitch that needs time to mature. A pretty head with correct skull shape. The eye colour a bit lighter than I prefer. Very good bone with tight feet. Slightly straight in upper arm which effects movement.  A bit lower in croup.
2nd: 6120 VALLANCE, Ms K P Glencarron Second Edition to Corcencone
Another bitch that needs time to mature. A lovely dark coat. A kindly expression but would prefer more length in foreface. Good length of body. She also has a low croup.

1st: 6113 TOMS, Miss S Ladysdale Maud Gonne JD Jun Ch Cen.JW

A well balance bitch in good condition. A refined head with lighter coloured eyes. Finer in bone. Correct body with straight topline. Very good tail set  and carriage.
2nd: 6119 VALLANCE, Ms K P Lynwood Rather Ravishing at Corcencone
A darker bitch out of coat at the moment. Another girl with a more refined head but correct skull shape. Dark eye. Good bone with tight feet. I would like more length of second thigh and a more level croup.

Class 2700 GB (15 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6090 PETERS, Miss Lillie-Amber Corranroo Hot Sensation At Shirlilah

A pretty bitch with good depth of body. Very good neck in to shoulders with a good topline. A refined head with dark eye. Good skull shape. Would like more length in upper arm. Well angled in the hindquarter with a good tail set. Moved well.
2nd: 6020 CLARKE, Miss Chloe Mae Ellen & CLARKE, Mr David COVARNEY DREAM TIME FROM BRONRIANS JW
A lighter coloured bitch with lovely neck in to shoulders and a strong topline. Correct head shape with dark eye.  Good thickness through the second thigh. Slight dropping away at croup. Unfortunately paced across and back on the move.


Class 2701 PGB (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 6118 TURNER, Miss J Blazing Bronze Jitterbug With Dazycutter (Imp NLD)

 A dark coated well balanced bitch. Correct skull and correct proportions in head and muzzle length. Dark eye. Good bone. Level topline with correct tail set. Would like more length in upper arm.
2nd: 6089 PALLISTER, Mr & Mrs I & P A Penwyn Keeping Faith
Another bitch with good depth of body. The head not as good as 1st place. Would like lower set ears. Good bone with tight feet. Not as level in topline as I would like. Good tail set.

Class 2702 LB (15 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6065 HUMPHREYS, Mrs & Mr Julie & Paul Riverbrue Flashbax at Henaleas

A hard class as I had 2 beautiful girls that both moved out covering ground.An excellent coated bitch. Beautiful shape with good depth of body and plenty of bone. Excellent head and expression with correct planes, a well shaped skull and correct ratio of head to nose. Excellent topline. Would like tighter feet.  Sister to my Dog Challenge winner who pushed her hard for Best of Breed. BCC
2nd: 6007 ALLEN, Mr Geoff & BOTT, Mr Paul & MORGAN, Mrs Ange Quensha Crimes of Passion
As I said for first place a very close decision between the 2. Another well boned bitch with great angles fore and hind. Strong level topline. A pretty head but slightly loose in the eyes. Beautiful hindquarters. Again moved well. RBCC

Class 2703 OB (6 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: 6106 STERRITT, Mrs G IR SH CH Corranroo Just One Kiss With Riversett JuAnother well boned girl with good depth of body. Correct oval skull with low set ears. I would like a better expression. Lovely long neck flowing correctly in to shoulders. Tight feet. Moved well.
2nd: 6015 CATLING, Mrs Patricia Ann M Sh Ch Teleri Indian Summer (ai) JW
A well bodied bitch in good condition with strong topline and correct tail set. Well boned. Good length of head but would like more strength in the muzzle. Excellent low set ears. Plenty of substance. Well angled behind. Would like a bit more angle in the upper arm.
