A reasonable entry for this part of the country but today sadly marred by absentees for various reasons. I felt all coped well on a hot day & it was pleasing to see some hounds who still make me passionate about my first love. It was good to see that scissoring was not seen today & never should be. Several exhibits today were let down by soft sloppy unsound top lines, they should be firm but flexible, not like a table top but the hound should be flowing & showing good balance in front & rear, when they do not this is when you loose the good top line, when like a table top this is when movement is restrictive. I could see no visible signs of health issues & all were presented in clean knott free coats.

1st: 42 PARSONS, Mrs Julie & PARSONS, Mr Robert Shukriya Fade To Black a male of pleasing size, full of life & he just wanted to enjoy the experience, good to see when young & should be allowed to make it fun, put in enough strides to see he can cover the ground with ease, lovely hound head, firm neck, hopefully top line will firm up with maturity, lovely large feet, hocks are sound  & well set.

Class 3 YD (5 Entries) Abs: 2

Three very nice but  all at different stages of development & could all change places on a different day.
1st: 5 BOVEY, Mrs Carolyne & BOVEY, Mr Christopher Sitana Johnny Blaze At Karianca pale cream/grizzle well shaped head, strength of jaw, well set eye, triangular & expressive, good sized feet, in good body with fair spring of ribbing, firm in loin, lovely silky coat which is well presented & desirable saddle, well placed pin bones & good fallaway, strong short hocks, ringed tail, moved out well both front & rear with head held proudly on his firm neck.
2nd: 2 BASTOW, Mr G & Mrs W Cloudside Bright Flame Karandikar

very houndy in shape & very desirable head this  s/m.red male is very much at the teenager stage, when he balances himself out will be very appealing, gleaming silky red coat, still filling out in body but like his ribbing & has the desired short strong loin, lovely big feet, moved well with free easy strides even though wanted to play, nicely set ringed tail which he carries just right on the move.

desirable head, low set ears & lovely triangular eyes, firm neck of good length, in excellent body condition, a shade long in body but coped well on the move to provide a steady flowing action, prominent pin bones & good rear with well placed tail raised on the move, cream in colour with a goood silky texture & saddle, 
2nd: 15 HITCH, Ms Melinda Zendushkas Amarillo JW 

shorter coupled all through than 1 which I prefer but not the head piece of 1st, well placed shoulder & upper arm, correct amount of width both front & rear, saddle & silky gold coat well presented, firm top line, correct tail set & ringed which is raised on the move, nicely covers the ground & moved at the correct speed to show a good sound movement, firm short hocks.

A lovely class to judge, the males in this class reminded me how I fell in love with this breed over 50 years ago & are very much what I look for when interpreting the breed standard.
1st: 10 FRENCH, Ms Margaret & FRENCH, Mr William Sitana Moon Knight At Zalmeerah JW

I judged this hound 4 years ago at his very first show & awarded him B. Puppy In Show all breeds, I have not had the pleasure of judging him since but today he shone from entering the ring & caught my eye for breed type & sound construction throughout. Dark triangular eyes with that far away look, strongly built skull & he has such power in his jaws with large gleeming teeth, ears low set, correct length of neck, balanced in shoulder & upper arm, elbows firm to body without restricting his stride on the move, good depth to his chest & excellent ribbing, short strong loin, strong level top line, prominent hip bones, correct length from hip to hocks which are firm, natural saddle, gleaming bl/tan coat & so well muscled, loved the ringed tail which is used on the move, has very desirable big, firm flat feet, moved out so well with ease & style of high order. Delighted to see this hound today, C.C. & B.O.B.
2nd: 35 MOORE, Mr W Cloudside Black Hawk

wow, another hound who takes me back in time, has the best of heads, lovely front, good depth of chest, nicely boned &  has big firm feet, like his height & length proportions, holds a firm level top line both stood & moving, moves out so well just needs to carry his head a little higher on the move, in good coat this bl/tan was considered for higher awards today just needs time to fully fill out & mature then will be very difficult to beat.

first time I have judged this  bl/tan hound who today I have never seen looking better, he performed to perfection both stood & on the move, masculine without anything heavy, well shaped head with low ear set & dark triangular eyes giving correct expression, lovely body shape, firm top line with excellent depth to his chest & strong short loin, has well placed shoulder & upper arm, well muscled rear with firm low set hocks, natural ringed tail correctly set & carried, moved out well while thoroughly enjoying himself. proud head carriage & impressive in his stature, lovely outline, strong firm top line, prominent hip bones, sh/m gold in gleaming condition, natural saddle & silky coat  which is not over abundant, nicely set ringed tail, happy outgoing hound who moved soundly both fore & aft, strong firm hocks which provide a good push off when moving.

long admired but first time I have judged, very masculine brindle with a profuse coat but of correct texture & natural saddle, well presented, lovely skull & strong jaws, firm neck that carries his head proudly, good bone, firm elbows, level top line still holding out well, older breeders would say you want feet the size of a t plate, this male has them. strode out with effortless precise strides, ringed tail. s/m cream very much of the desert type, fine throughout but of a pleasing balance, good skull, prefer more under jaw, low set ears, good top line, not carrying a lot of body coverage but this type do not, free flowing movement, sparsely coated but of a silky texture.

this youngster is very much a blast from the past in breed type, when she gets herself together should do very well, owner needs to persavere & work on her as she has so much potential, most lovely head shape,  with strength of jaw, good eye shape, chiselling, low set ears, still needs to fill out in her body, ribs well carried & has reasonable depth of chest, low firm hocks with good bend of stifle, typical Afghan in many ways.

thought would be my class winner on first impression but sadly not holding her top line as well now, most lovely head shape with strong jaw, like her eye & ear placement, good length to neck & most pleasing in shoulder & upper arm, has depth of chest & nicely ribbed, gleaming cream coat with natural saddle & loosely ringed tail well set.

very houndy brindle with natural saddle, nicely proprtioned head with firm jaw, dark eyes, not heavy in body she has good depth of chest, she is not long but does not hold a firm top line, firm in her hocks & has a nicely ringed tail.

a lovely youngster who appealed greatly but was not wanting to co-operate with her owner today & assessing her movement was difficult, most lovely head, expression & well set eyes, correct rib & loin, prominent hip bones, well presented cream coat, hopefully maturity will settle her down as she has promise, loosely ringed tail well set on.

All very different & a class where the dogs had to be judged on performance in the ring today, first impression the bitch placed third was my winner but she was having none of it today sadly. The bitch placed first was the best mover & only one who strode out in front.

not a heavily coated black who won this class on movement, she was the only one using her front to give any sign of a good reach, pleasing in head, firm neck, good proportion of ribbing & loin, pin bones well set, nicely sized feet, her movement was free & flowing she covers the ground with ease & proudly carries her head, would like more gleam on her coat & she should do well.

lovely head, good eye & expression, well set ears, all black in good coat, good bone, would like more length of leg, nicely shaped big feet, has good depth of chest, holds a firm top line, ringed tail well set & carried, firm in her rear with well set hocks.

desirable head, her size is correct & her flowing lines provide a picture of elegance & soundly constructed, did not let herself down she flows around the ring with ease & light on her feet, excellent body shape, firm level top line, big firm feet, depth of chest with elbows well held into her body, prominent hip bones, correct fall away to stern, good length from hip to hocks which are short  & firm, she drives so well from them, lovely tail set & ringed, gleaming black/silver coat.
