Breed: Shetland Sheepdog

Thank you to the Officers and Committee for their kind invitation to award my first set of CCs in this lovely breed and for their hospitality on the day, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at New Park. Thank you to the exhibitors for their entries, some lovely dogs present and some close decisions to be made. There were plenty of lovely youngsters in both sexes which bodes well for the future.

MPD (1): 1st Arnould’s Shadoway Escapade, 7-month-old sable & white. Promising baby with some maturing to do. Balanced head with a lovely almond eye of good size, set correctly. Super set of ears of good size giving an alert expression. Good outline, although I would prefer a touch more length of neck, but good length of back and deep chest. Well laid-back shoulder and ok in upper arm. Lovely hind angulation with good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Good bone and neat feat. Moved and showed well.

PD (2): 1st Weller’s Evad Halloween Tzar, 9-month-old sable & white of good size. Clean head developing nicely, still needs to flatten a touch in skull, muzzle is of equal length with a clean stop and flat cheeks. Lovely eye of good size, shape and set. Well set ears of good size, tipping correctly giving a sweet expression. Good outline with enough neck, level back of good length and deep chest with well sprung rib. Balanced in angulation front and rear with good bone and feet. In super coat of good texture which was well presented. Balanced on the move. Best Puppy Dog.

2nd Fagg’s Evad Halloween King At Lynscot, sable & white litter brother to the class winner and of a similar style. Lovely eye and ears but not the moulding in foreface of his brother. Good outline with a good neck and length of back, with deep chest. A little steeper in upper arm and front pasters tended to point out both standing and on the move. Well angulated rear with short rear pasterns. Would have preferred a bit more reach on the move.

JD (4): 1st Norris’ Ferngrove's Code Blue, 16-month-old blue merle who appealed in this class for his overall balance and outline. Clean wedge head of good width and proportions. Skull needs to flatten slightly but he has a well-rounded muzzle of equal length. Eye a touch fuller than I would prefer but super ears of good size, set correctly which all gives a sweet yet masculine expression. Good neck and well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm. Good spring of rib and depth of chest with well angled hind quarters with good bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Good bone and feet with well arched toes. In an abundance of coat of excellent texture and a super colour. Moved and showed well.

2nd Forbes’ Degallo The Prodigy, 14-month-old sable & white. Lovely wedge head, clean with a flat skull, muzzle of equal length and rounded foreface separated by a clean stop. Lovely almond shaped eye set obliquely with super ears giving a sweet expression. Good angulation front and rear with a level back and gently sloping croup, just a bit longer than I would prefer. In good, well-presented coat of correct texture.

3rd Greaves’ Foxtones Fairy Glen.

YD (3): 1st: Rossiter’s Cocaro The Highlander JW. I really liked this 18-month-old sable and white boy. Lovely head and expression, clean wedge with flat skull, well rounded muzzle of equal length, clean cheeks and well-placed stop. He has such a lovely dark eye, of almond shape, good size and set obliquely with well-placed ears, set high and held semi erect giving a sweet, yet masculine expression. His outline is superb with an arched neck of good length flowing into well laid shoulders with good return of upper arm of equal length, a level back with gentle sweep of the loin to a sloping croup and low set tail. Excellent hind angulation with short rear pasterns, good bone and neat feet. Kept looking up at “mum” on the move, but when he put his head down, he moved with reach and drive keeping a good outline. Presented beautifully and could not be denied the RCC. Well done and best of luck with him in the future.

2nd Norris’ Ferngrove's Code Blue, as before.

3rd Clough-Diprose’s Auberswell Star Trooper

PGD (1): 1st Clough-Diprose’s Auberswell Star Trooper, 18-month-old sable & white who was 3rd in the previous class. A bit broader in back skull giving wider set ears, and deeper in stop than I would prefer, but with a nice eye of good size and shape, set correctly and good underjaw. Good outline with level back and good depth of chest. A little wider in front and shorter in upper arm which meant he didn’t have the reach I was looking for on the move.

LD (7,1): 1st Winfield’s Oakcroft The Mandalorian JW, 2-year-old sable & white. Good wedge head with well-balanced skull and muzzle and good underjaw. Well set ears of good size and well-set eyes, although a touch fuller than I’d prefer. Built beautifully, with a good neck, lovely length of level back and gentle slope to the croup with low set tail. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Good bone and feet. Moved with reach and drive. In good coat and showed well.

2nd Barrowclough’s Shadowess Lockdown Hero, 5-year-old sable & white. Nice head, with super eye of good shape and set and well-set ears, flat skull and muzzle of equal length. Would have preferred a touch more neck to balance with his size and length of back. Super hind angulation although a bit steeper in upper arm. Would have preferred a touch more reach on the move.

3rd Clough’s Evad Lite Breeze

OD (5): 1st Pearson’s Ch Edglonian Golden Graham, 5-year-old sable & white who just commands attention. Lovely, masculine head, a clean wedge with flat skull, parallel to a muzzle of equal length with a clean, slight stop. Well-rounded muzzle and super underjaw. Dark almond eye, set obliquely and high set ears tipped correctly. He has a super outline with well arched neck, good length of level back, well sprung rib and gently sloping croup with low set tail. Well angulated front and rear with short rear pasterns and super bone with the neatest of feet. On the move he simply powers around the ring, with so much drive from the rear, I could really picture him doing a day’s work. A natural showman who is presented to perfection. He stood and demanded not only the class but also the Dog CC. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to go over him.

2nd Robinson’s Ch Lavika Deep Blue Ocean, 5-year-old blue merle. Super head with flat skull and beautifully moulded foreface of equal length. Ears a touch wider set than the winner’s but of good size and tipping correctly. Blue eyes of good shape and set obliquely which gives him a masculine expression but not quite the underjaw of the winner. Lovely outline with a super neck and good length of back, with good angulation front and rear and low set tail. Good bone and feet. Moved with reach and drive, keeping his topline well. Presented beautifully and considered for top honours.

3rd Robinson’s Ch Lavika Starlight Salute

VD (1): 1st French’s Ch Lindfern Light Sabre JW, 7-year-old sable & white. Good head with a lovely eye of good shape and set obliquely, super ear carriage and well mounded foreface giving him a lovely expression. Good outline with neck of good length and slightly longer than high. Well laid-back shoulder and ok in upper arm, good bone and feet and well angulated hindquarters. Balanced on the move, keeping his topline well.

SBD/B (7,2): 1st Clough’s Evad Lite Breeze this nearly 5-year-old sable & white dog was 3rd in Limit Dog and an easy winner of this class. A touch broader in back skull and I would prefer more moulding in foreface, but he has a lovely eye and well-set ears which he used non-stop. Good length of level back and depth of chest, and well angulated front and rear which meant he was balanced on move keeping a good topline. Best Special Beginner in Breed.

2nd Roberson’s Melwhays Promise To Delight, nearly 2-year-old sable & white bitch who appealed for her overall conformation. Balanced head, but skull needs to flatten behind the eyes. Lovely almond eye of good size, set obliquely. A bit unsettled so not showing herself to advantage, but she has a good neck and is well angulated front and rear with neat feet. Moved with reach and drive.

3rd Waldron’s Philhope Just Precious At Frecia

VB (3): 1st Hateley’s Ch Mohnesee Sweet Dreams JW VW, so much to like about this 7-year-old sable & white girl. Lovely head and expression with a super eye and well-set ears giving a sweet and very feminine expression. Lovely outline with a super length of neck, nicely arched, with a good length of back and deep chest. Well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm and well angulated rear with a lovely bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Lovely on the move, balanced with reach and drive. A touch out of coat but it is of good texture and condition. In the challenge, I did consider her for the RCC. Best Veteran in Breed, and I was delighted to hear that she was also Veteran Group 3, well done!

2nd Arnould’s Shadoway Perchance To Dream JW, at nearly 14, this sable & white girl is in super condition and really does not show her age! Lovely head and expression with a super eye and well-set ears. Lovely in outline, balanced with a good neck and length of back. Lovely front and standing strong on a well angulated rear. In excellent coat and moved with reach and clearly still enjoys her days out.

3rd Cheal’s Carolelen Call My Bluff At Faemadra

MPB (2): 1st Arnould’s Shadoway Minuette, 7-month-old sable & white who was full of character. Promising head with a lovely eye and well-set ears of good size. Lovely outline with a good neck and length of back and low set tail. Well angulated front and rear. Enjoyed herself on the move.

2nd Barnett’s Dippersmoor Diamante At Sonspirit, 8-month-old tricolour. Bit wider in back skull so ears a little wider set. Lovely dark eye of good size set correctly and nicely moulded foreface. Good outline with level back. Ok front angulation, would have preferred a touch more reach on the move.

PB (6,1): 1st Mettan-Ure’s Oakcroft Graceful Star Over Savendie, this 10-month-old sable & white appealed for her overall balance and outline. Balanced head, with a super eye and well-set ears, needs a little more moulding in muzzle. Lovely length of well arched neck and lovely length of back giving an elegant outline. Good angulation front and rear but needs to tighten a little in elbow. Moved well in profile with reach and drive.

2nd Barrowclough’s Shadowess Moonlight Blue, 9-month-old blue merle. Very eye catching as her blue is of the clearest silvery blue. Head does need time as needs to flatten behind the eye and her ears are a little large. Good shape eye, dark with lovely blue flecks, set obliquely. Lovely shape with gentle sweep over the loin and croup with low set tail. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, with super bend of stifle and short rear pasterns. Moved well in profile but a touch wide behind going away.

3rd Winfield’s Oakcroft Amazing Star

JB (6,1): 1st Barrowclough’s Shadowess Enchanted Dream, 9-month-old tricolour and sister to 2nd in the previous class. More finished in head than her sister with a flat skull and muzzle of equal length, good underjaw, neat ears set high and lovely almond eye set obliquely all giving her a lovely expression. Lovely shape with an arched neck of good length and level back to give a balanced outline. Super angulation front and rear which allowed her to really stride out, barely lifting her front legs, with drive from the rear. In super, jet black coat with minimal sparking white and rich tan markings. Delighted to award her Best Puppy in Breed and I shall watch her future with progress.

2nd Powell’s Truly Alula At Kimgilee, 12-month-old tricolour. Flat skull and parallel muzzle of equal length but a touch wider in skull that I’d prefer. Slightly fuller in eye, set correctly and ears of good size but set a touch wide. Would have preferred a touch more neck but firm, level back and good angulation front and rear which allowed her to move well.

3rd Waldron Philhope Just Precious At Frecia

YB (6,1): 1st Robinson’s Dippersmoor Dazzling Star JW, this 18-month-old shaded sable & white who really stood out in this class. Lovely head, so balanced with a wedge shape, moderate width between the ears and a beautifully moulded foreface and good underjaw. Lovely dark almond eye, of good size and set obliquely and well-set ears of good size giving a sweet and feminine expression. Super outline with a well arched neck and level topline and gentle slope to the croup and low set tail of good length. Super angulation front and rear which allowed her to move with reach and drive, completely balanced and keeping her topline well. In super coat and beautifully presented. It was my pleasure to award her the RCC and best of luck with her in the future.

2nd Lewis’ Savendie Fortune Cookie For Shemella, 18-month-old sable & white. A petite girl with a pretty head, with well set dark eye and neat ears set high. Good stop, although I’d prefer a bit more fill in foreface. Good angulation front and rear with neat feet. Arched neck and level back in balance. Good on the move.

3rd Powell’s Truly Alula At Kimgilee

PGB (8): 1st Cheal’s Valdosta Galadriel At Faemadra JW, 2-year-old sable & white. Very feminine with a balanced head, although a touch deeper in stop. Lovely ear set and dark almond eye set correctly. Lovely outline with a neck of good length and ok topline. Good depth of chest and well sprung rib. Well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, nice bone and feet, with rear angulation in balance. Moved soundly with reach and drive. In full coat of good texture.

2nd French’s Skeldale Wish Upon A Star Over Lindfern Jw (imp Nl), 2-year-old sable & white, very similar in style to the winner with lots to like. Lovely head, a clean wedge with a slight stop, well set ears and eyes giving a sweet expression. Good outline with level back and gently sloping croup, just a touch longer than I’d prefer. Well angulated front and rear which allowed her to move with reach and drive, just a bit wide at the elbows coming towards me.

3rd Hateley’s Mohnesee's Meliya JW

LB (10,3): 1st Weller’s Evad Halloween Spice JW, 2-year-old sable & white who won this class on her overall balance and outline. Clean wedge head with flat skull and muzzle of equal length and clean stop. Eye a little fuller than I’d prefer but set correctly with high set ears carried correctly. Lovely outline with well arched neck and good length of back. Well laid-back shoulder with good return of upper arm, with good hind quarters, short rear pasterns and well bent stifle. Balanced on the move and sound. In excellent coat of good texture.

2nd Norris’ Sabema Mayfly At Ferngrove, 2-year-old sable & white. Clean head with flat skull and well-set ears. A touch larger in eye than I’d prefer but of good shape and set obliquely. Not quite the graceful outline as the winner, I’d prefer a touch more length leg. Good front angulation and well bent stifle and short rear pasterns. Moved well with reach and drive.

3rd Barrowclough’s Shadowess Ginger Biscuit

OB (7): 1st Pearson’s Ch Edglonian Golden Glow, 2-year-old sable & white. Sometimes a dog walks in the ring, and you just think wow! For me she just ticks all the boxes. Lovely clean head with flat skull, good muzzle and underjaw and clean stop. Lovely almond eye and well-set ears. Loved her outline, graceful and feminine. Arched neck flowing into well laid shoulders and good return of upper arm. Level back with sweep over the loin and gently sloping croup with low set tail of good length. Hind angulation in balance with the front, with short rear pasterns. Good bone and neat feet. This all allowed her to flow round the ring, with reach and drive, keeping her topline well. Close fitting coat with feminine featherings, she was presented to perfection. I was very conscious I had awarded her father the DCC, but I would not have been judging dogs had I not awarded her the Bitch CC. When it came to the challenge, her dad is definitely the showman, but I think she is simply lovely so awarded her Best of Breed, and thank you for bringing her.

2nd Mitchell’s Valdosta Goddess Jw, 3-year-old sable & white. Very feminine, Balanced head with a well moulded foreface, well set ears and lovely almond eye giving her a lovely expression. Lovely outline with arched neck and level topline, good depth of chest and spring of rib. Well angulated front and rear with well laid shoulder and good return of upper arm, short rear pasterns and well bent stifle. Lovely on the move with reach and drive.

3rd Robinson’s Ch Lavika Lateca
