My thanks to Bournemouth Canine Association for inviting me to judge Petits this year and to all the exhibitors who entered their hounds. As a replacement judge for the late Mark Cocozza, it was tinged with sadness and I’m sure the exhibitors had been looking forward to him fulfilling this appointment, so thank you for your entries. My BOB was awarded to a super young dog in tip top condition, Ch Soletrader Happy As Larry and I was delighted to see that he went through to win HG1 & RBIS – Congratulations, well deserved. I last judged the breed in 2021 and see that he was bred by my dog and bitch CC winners from that day. There were several others that I last judged as youngsters and it’s always interesting to see how they’ve come along and if they’ve progressed as you thought they might. Overall a good entry with a few difficult decisions. Once again a few dogs were over-groomed and unnecessarily so as the dogs were good enough not to need over-embellishment – it didn’t enhance their appearance, but served to distract. And there were several that were over extended when presented and self-stacked far better, showing their natural balance and structure.  Again, my thanks to everyone for entering, it’s always a pleasure to judge your hounds and thanks to my hardworking steward, Darren. 

Class 1046 PD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2297 REID, Mr P & Mrs D Maudaxi Billy Bookcase– 10 month grizzle & white, nice overall size, type and shape, good head and expression with lovely dark eye. Strong neck into good overall outline although presents a little bit bum high at the moment but self stacks well and has time to settle into his frame. Good forechest, good depth and width all through, harsh coat, moved out well, sound and true.

Class 1047 JD (3 Entries) Abs: 1 
I see these are half brothers and there’s much to like about both of them.

1st: 2288 MCCARTNEY, Mrs G L Soletrader Ed Sheeran RCC - Really liked this well grown 17 month lemon (orange?) & white, lovely type and character. Head of good proportions with good pigmentation and ear-set. Good coat. Strong neck into well laid shoulder and good topline with good length and set-on of stern, good depth and width all through, with room still to finish his frame, well ribbed back, well angulated hindquarters, lovely on the move, plenty of reach and drive. Strong, unexaggerated and workmanlike.

2nd: 2307 WATSON & KENNA, Mr & Mrs S D & A S Cynetkoy's Heihei – Lovely overall type, 12 month grizzle and white, nice head and expression with good pigmentation. Looks good on the stack, of good size and proportion, good overall shape and angulation, still needs to mature and fill through the chest. Moved out soundly. Just needs more confidence and experience.  

Class 1048 PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2278 BARTLEY, Mr Tim & BARTLEY, MRS Deborah Erylan Poseidon De La Mer JW – 18 months grizzle & white, lovely head and expression, good pigmentation, good depth and width all through, well ribbed back, good angulation fore and aft, moved out sound & true in all directions. Enjoying his day and showing well, well presented.

2nd: 2286 HOLT, Mrs Kim Nykarth's Under Wraps - 2.5 yr old mature and well bodied, good coat, lovely type, good head and expression, good forehand and rear angulation, depth and width, good topline, self stacks well. Less happy on the day, just needs more confidence.

Class 1049 LD (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2282 DANE, Mr Paul Spencer & GUERNARI, Ms Lisa Cynetkoy's Tinker Tailor – 2 yr white and grizzle, much to like about this boy, good overall, size and type, well off for bone and shown in hard condition. Good neck set on into well laid shoulder, good topline into good tail set-on and length, good depth and width all through, well ribbed back, good rear angulation with well let down hocks, moved out well in profile and going away, but unenthusiastic.

Class 1050 OD (5 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 2298 ROBERTSON, Mrs S & ROBERTSON, Miss E & ROBERTSON, Ch Soletrader Happy As Larry – DCC, BOB, HG1 & RBIS – Standaway winner in this lovely class with great ring presence and attitude, a stallion hound. Super tricolour 2 year old of excellent size, type, shape and proportions. Lovely head and expression, good ear-set and fold. Strong neck flowing into good set on and topline, well laid shoulder and upper arm, plenty of depth and width all through, lovely angulation fore and aft, strong well let down hocks used well on the move. Excellent tail set and length. Harsh coat. Nothing exaggerated about this dog either in conformation or coat he has it all naturally. Presented in excellent condition. Lovely free & easy action, a joy to watch.

2nd: 2287 MCCARTNEY, Mrs G L Ch Soletrader Freddie Mercury JW – 5 year old orange & white in his prime. Lovely compact size, good for type and shape and balance, free and easy mover. Lovely head and expression, good depth and width. Old fashioned type, by which I mean nothing exaggerated about him and very workmanlike. Would prefer more bend and return of stifle, but excellent on the move, just going away a bit close.

Res: 2276 BARTLEY, Mr Tim & BARTLEY, MRS Deborah Erylan Zeus Roi Des Dieux ShCEx

Class 1051 VD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
All 7 years, one nearly 8, but in this breed I would expect them to still be in their prime at this age, looking and going well.

1st: 2275 BARTLEY, Mr Tim & BARTLEY, MRS Deborah Erylan Loki Maitre Du Mal BV -  Grizzle & white 7.5 year old, well handled and presented, a real showman. Stacks up presenting a lovely picture of overall type, shape and balance. Good head and expression, good reach of neck into well laid shoulder and level topline, deep chest well ribbed, but would prefer slightly shorter loin, well angulated fore with and aft with good forechest, moved out soundly all round with plenty of reach and drive. 

2nd: 2289 MCEWAN, Mrs Ceri Marunnel Orinoco - Workmanlike 7 yr old of lovely size, type, shape and balance shown in good condition. Lovely head and expression, good neck into well laid shoulder and topline, would prefer more length of upper arm, but good depth and width all through, good tail set-on and length, well angulated rear. Moved out well with plenty of drive and free and easy action.

3rd: 2291 MOORE, Mrs Emma Afterglow Dough Ble Impact

Class 1052 SBD/B (2 Entries) Abs: 0
This is always a difficult class as the level of experience in both handlers and dogs can vary enormously, as well as looking at the overall conformation of the dogs.

1st: 2282 DANE, Mr Paul Spencer & GUERNARI, Ms Lisa Cynetkoy's Tinker Tailor BSB – See above LD winner. This hound won on both handler and dog having more ring experience, performing with confidence and the dog being presented to its best advantage.

2nd: 2292 MOORE, Mrs Emma Probert Calypso – Pretty little grizzle & white girl, 23 month with room to mature still, so giving a lot away when up against a more mature male. Sweet head and expression, good overall size and type with good height to length, would prefer a bit more bone, good coat and moved out effortlessly and enthusiastically.

Class 1053 PB (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 2299 ROBERTSON, Mrs S & ROBERTSON, Miss E & ROBERTSON, Soletrader Dolly Parton BP – What a charmer, first time out for this very promising 7 month grizzle and white bitch with the loveliest temperament, managing to make a novice out of her very experienced handler today! Really eye-catching with so much to recommend her, she was seriously considered for the RCC, but still needs to mature and settle and fill her frame. Lovely head and expression, good overall size and shape, but at the moment looking a little long cast, but I’m sure that will balance with maturity. Well off for bone and good width all through. Well angulated fore and aft, well let down hocks. Sound, active mover, excellent profile movement, good reach and drive. Good coat.

Class 1054 JB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2279 BLANCE, Mrs Chris & BLANCE, Miss N Soletrader Tina Turner – Super 17 month grizzle and white, lovely overall size and type with much to recommend her. Pretty head, but would prefer more length in foreface and slightly more balance to the skull. Well constructed all through, she presents a lovely picture on the stack with good reach of neck, level topline, good tail length and set-on and good angulation all round. At the moment she’s looking a little long on the leg, but still has some maturing and settling to do. Good depth and width all through, well angulated behind, super movement, easy and active with reach and drive.  Another considered for the RCC, but again would like to see her when she’s more mature and settled into her frame.

Class 1055 PGB (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: 2294 MOULDING, Miss K S Nykarth Touch Of Class –  Well made 2.5 year grizzle & white of good size, type, shape and balance. Good coat. Sweet head and expression, good dark eye, well placed ear-set, good reach of neck into well constructed forehand, good topline and tail set. She self stacks well and moves out soundly on an easy and enthusiastic gait. 

2nd: 2308 WOOD, Mr & Mrs Stephen & Lynn Beaujons Velvet – This 6 rising 7 year old is of good overall make and balance, but was carrying far too much weight on the day which spoiled her underline and topline. She’s old fashioned for type, honest and workmanlike with a good coat and has good angulation fore and aft and moved out well and soundly.

Class 1056 LB (4 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: 2283 FOOTE & MCAULAY, Mr & Mrs & Miss E,G & R Erylan Fantastique Freya Ir J Ch CJW22 – Lovely 3 year grizzle and white bitch of good size, type and shape. Sweet head and expression, good ear-set, strong neck well set onto good forehand, level topline, good tail-set, good angulation all through with good depth and width, but today was carrying a little too much weight. Overall well handled and presented, but would prefer her undercarriage to have been tidier, the fringing detracted from her overall shape and balance. Super on the move, plenty of reach and drive and sound all round.

2nd: 2310 WOOD, Mr & Mrs Stephen & Lynn Beaujons Leading Lady JW – 2 year grizzle & white, lovely size, type and shape, but carrying too much weight. Well off for bone, good angulation fore and aft, good depth and width all through and moved out well and soundly. Was fidgety on the stack.

3rd: 2296 REID, Mr P & Mrs D Maudaxi Joanie Loves Chacha JW

Class 1057 OB (7 Entries) Abs: 1
Lovely class of quality bitches that I am sure change places on other days.

1st: 2274 ALLENBY, Mrs Heidi & ALLENBY, Mr Richard Ch Soletrader Fun Times For Rangali JW , BCC – 3 year grizzle & white bitch of excellent petit type. Super overall size and shape, with good height to length ratio. Honest and workmanlike, there is nothing flashy or exaggerated about this girl, but she is balanced and well constructed. Lovely head and expression, good reach of neck into good topline, good tail set and length of stern. Good angulation fore and aft.  Compact body with good depth and width all through, ribbed well back. Good condition, good coat, not overly prepared or groomed. Moved out well on a light and easy gait, sound in all directions.

2nd: 2295 REID, Mr P & Mrs D Fox's Nightmare Lara Fabian At Maudaxi(imp Rus) RCC – Fully mature grizzle & white 4 year old, again of lovely type and shape. A well constructed bitch with good bone, good angulation fore and aft, excellent coat, lovely head and expression, strong neck, good depth and width all through. Another honest and workmanlike bitch nothing flashy about her, but made for the job. Moved out really well in all directions.

3rd: 2284 FOOTE & MCAULAY, Mr & Mrs & Miss E,G & R Ir Ch Ch Erylan Hera La Reine ShCEx

1st: 2306 WATSON & KENNA, Mr & Mrs S D & A S Cynetkoy Chilli Romance – Lovely 8 year white and grizzle well made bitch, well put together all through and in cracking condition, moving out on a light and easy gait, holding her topline at all times. Excellent angulation fore and aft, compact, well boned, good topline and stern, harsh coat.

2nd: 2290 MCEWAN, Mrs Ceri Marunnel Miss Adelaide – Grizzle & white 7 year old shown in excellent condition. Good overall size, type and shape with plenty of depth and width all through, good rear angulation, used to advantage on the move. Preferred the forehand angulation of the winner. Moved out well in profile and going away, just over enthusiastic coming towards.

3rd: 2309 WOOD, Mr & Mrs Stephen & Lynn Beaujons Whisper
